I see quite a lot of 10/22s being advertised for more than list price, and just wonder what people think about paying extra for one. Personally, I wouldn't, but I can see if someone wants or needs one right away, and can't find one at a dealer they would.

To those who are speculating on them in hopes of making a buck, more power to you. I have no issues with capitalism, but I already have a take-down, I bought for list, so no soup for you, from me! :p

Some prices on the EE are just so off they make you shake your head.
Just compared some prices with Cabelas because that's the only catalogue lying around right now.
10/22 stainless synthetic 289.99
Sporter deluxe walnut stock 349.99
Standard hardwood blued 259.99
Takedown 379.99
I don't care how long I'd have to wait, I'm not paying $100 more than its worth.

Depends how bad you want the firearm, some will wait others will just pay extra. If people can afford it why not, example is ksg and pmags you can end up paying 3X the original price.

I've got a brand new 10/22 takedown up on the EE now....I'm using it as trading stock, but I'd never ask a fellow to pay me more than I have into it....just doesn't sit well with me. Trading seems a little more fair.

Personally I would not but if someone wanted one bad enough and chose to pay more that's up to them.
If they're okay with it then I'm okay with it.

Cabela's, among other dealers, have the takedown in stock, so your rifle wouldn't command a premium anyhow. It's the regular carbines that are pretty tough to find right now.

It's kinda like the story about the Grasshopper and the ant......

I ain't gonna slag the ant just cause he saw the writing on the wall.

Nor am I going to slag the grasshopper for being broke when there was stock!

I currently have an "overpriced" 10/22 in the EE. I have it up for sale for about $25 less than I have into it. Normally in times of "feast" (lots of 10/22s in stores etc) I would be asking $150 less for it. I don't need the money nor the rifle. But it is nice enough that I am not going to sell it unless its worth my while......

I guess that makes me a bad person......

I see nothing wrong with trying to make a buck, I just think these shortages are quite transient in nature. It's not like you need to wait very long for retailers to get stock in. I would pay a premium for a gun I wanted that was really rare, and no longer in production, but 10/22s, are neither.

I wouldn't pay over list unless it was the last one around and I had to have it. You should be able to find one at a decent price if you shop around.

I can get them locally for $250 taxes in so I laugh when I see "BNIB 10/22 blued/walnut $370 plus shipping" or "10/22 stainless with $50 scope $450 plus shipping" maybe I should list my '89 blonde/polished/blued 10/22 for $600 cos its the uber rare California edition or some stupid thing. I'll even rub my #### on it for $75 extra.

A gun is just like any other product, worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. And as the saying goes, a fool and his money are soon parted. I wouldn't pay more than list unless it was something I absolutely wanted and couldn't find anywhere else. As far as selling, good luck getting me to part with any guns, so the asking prices would be fairly high.

I've been offer $100 more for my Marlin popoose and Marlin .357 than I paid new, however both are rare and very hard to find.
I've never listed them nor am I ever going to. That being said, there's a difference between rare and easily found firearms. 10/22's are a dime a dozen models. I sold one for $200 after putting around 2K through it. I felt that I got a good run for my money. I think I paid $230 all in for it new. At the same time, I wouldn't sell my Glock 3.5 17 for any price, and I've run around 20k through that gem.
Same goes for Ammo. I just bought 1K of 9mm from Lebanon for under $24 per 100.
Guys sell 9mm ammo on the EE for $300 per K.
When it's hard to find sure you'll pay what it takes.
But really, as already posted above...
A fool and his money are soon parted.
Do your homework.
BTW you can ask any price you want, if there are takers so be it.
