Did you order a stock from them? A few weeks ago a member was on the phone and the lady said only ups for stocks no getting around it. All the smaller stuff I have gotten was usps
No, sorry, I only ordered magazines, bottom metal, trigger guard and some other stuff. I wonder if speaking to a supervisor at Savage would help?
UPS is waaaay out of the question for me. They're a bunch of thieves, and I've heard they're the subject of several class-action lawsuits over their practices. In my case, the "watershed moment" was when I ordered some screws for my motorcycle fairing - total cost, including shipping (UPS) and applied-at-source Canadian taxes was $14.05. On arrival of my parts, UPS charged me an additional $28.40 (more than twice the amount of the entire transaction) for "duty, brokerage fees and taxes". Every one of these fees was illegal. The items were NAFTA-specified duty exempt, the total amount was below that where brokerage is allowed to be charged, and taxes had already been paid (the company has a Canadian tax number, and pays the taxes directly on your behalf - they do a lot of business with Canadians).
I called UPS to complain. Their offer? They'd return the items to the sender, after I paid return shipping & brokerage fees. So, it would only cost me the $28.40 to not get my parts at all. In the end, I had to pay it (or not get my bike on the road for a trip planned months in advance). I called a couple of federal agencies to complain - no one was surprised, and I was told that there are thousands of complaints like mine on record.
**Sorry - UPS rant over.**
BTW, most of the US companies I deal with have been very understanding about making an exception for me, and shipping with USPS, once the issues were explained to them. In fact, many sites exporting stuff to Canada have changed their policies, and automatically ship USPS to Canada, as a result of all the complaints.
