Building an 11.5" AR, What muzzle device would YOU put on?

I have an A2 on my 10.5” and can’t help but echo these sentiments… although I have a spare Battlecomp that might find its way on I see no real reason to change it… If people complain at the range I take it as a compliment…

A2. Short, light, functional, cheap.

Another vote here for an A2. Tried the cream of the crop last year, didn't notice much difference from an A2. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I have a battlecomp on my 11.5" - works decent.
A standard A2 flash supressor is less than functional on a barrel this short, so you might just as well go with something that mitigates muzzle rise and recoil.

This.

Sorry, but that's just not true.

I've tried a lot of different muzzle devices on my 10.5" and despite my love of brakes and comps, my rifle currently wears an A2. The A2 is a very competent flash hider and compensator.

With some of the brakes and comps I've tried (not all) you can get very good muzzle control at speed. However, any gain you get in muzzle control is mitigated by annoying muzzle blast and flash.

Also, people forget that a lot of the muzzle movement you get is due to improper technique. Square your shoulders, use an aggressive stance, get your support hand as close to the muzzle as possible without being dangerous, grip it like a hose and lock into your shoulder! Do this and you will be hard pressed to notice the difference between an A2 and a good muzzle brake/comp on the shorter rifles.

Longer rifles of 14.5 and above? I'd use one of the several good brakes on the market; the Dlask A6 being the best of the breed I've tried. It's simply outstanding.

Comparing my 10.5" with A2 and my 16" with no muzzle device, there is a noticeable difference in muzzle rise, even if just slight… Also, if I use the right type of ammo, read with flash suppression, there is little to no noticeable flash (in day light naturally) and I have been told it is noticeably less concussive…

Can you show or tell me your comp set up for the effin A comp? Just got one for my 10.5, just waiting for my transfer.

I have one on my 11.5, be prepared for your gun to be loud as hell.

The muzzle is really stable, and I haven't even looked at using the provided set-screws for tuning.

Did I mention that it is loud as hell?

Here's my 11.5

Love my pig! Much more comfortable for people standing beside you on the line :)

I have a DPMS Levang linear comp on my 11.5" AR. It's still surprisingly loud despite the linear comp...might try something else in the future. My 16" has a YHM comp...that's loud too.

Any flash hider, not a ported comp.
A2, VLTOR flashiders, AAC flash hiders, PWS Triad, YHM phantom.
Kx3, ATRS Eliminator, but they are heavier.

If you must have a comp, try a battle comp, triple tap

Maybe the BCM comp/ flashider, haven't tried it yet to see if its a balanced device.
Ported comps just make the SBR even louder. Shooting it under tin roofs, indoors, in cars, hell any confined space is really uncomfortable... for any one close by.

Well, maybe not true in your world - We'll have to agree to disagree.
An A2 does well with a 20" barrel and for that role it fills the bill nicely. They progressively degrade in both their ability to act as a flash suppressor and a compensator the shorter the barrel gets.
There are better options out there - much better.

So with the A2 on an 11.5" barrel you get the best of all worlds - annoying blast, check - lots of flash, check - less muzzle control than other devices, check.

Agreed! :D

Well, unless you re talking about a suppressor (dare to dream), I really don't believe there is, not for a 10.5. The A2 is very hard to beat in this application.

Muzzle blast isn't annoying on my 10.5 with an A2. I can't say that for other brakes/comps I've tried.

I have mine setup exactly as they have in the video link attached below. They show their setup at about 3:25 in the video but watch the whole thing as it is quite good. Their setup works for me but may not for you. Dont be afraid to play around with it. Several other videos and reviews worth looking at on you tube too. Just type Effin A into the search. Good luck

NEA with a triple tap, lol.

I like my MB556K on my 10.5 LMT better then the A2 it wore.

Other shooters will hate you though, fyi.

Recoil is non existent.

I guess those other shooters should go take up knitting. I was running the A2 on my 10.5 but i'm looking into the ATRS eliminator or the troy claymore.
