Shorten PAL Approval Times

It seems that the waiting time for RPALS in Ontario has been extended to 90 days, not that they are advertising it or saying it out loud but seems to be an ongoing pattern. I am pretty close to the 90 day mark, so time will tell.

According to most experiences I've read here you can count on about 3 weeks before it appears online. Mine had been 3 weeks to the day today and still not there, but I'm expecting it any minute now lol.
Mine was almost 4 weeks before it showed online. They told me that they are super busy with applications right now.

Just an update. I sent my app. by registered mail on March 15. The app. still showed received at Post Office March 15 2 weeks ago with no progress. I phoned to enquire and PO said they'd look into it. They said wait 2 weeks for contact from them. Well, 2 weeks goes by and nothing. So I called them again to ask what the deal was. She tells me someone closed my investigation and didn't put down a reason. She said she'd open a new investigation and to call back in a week if I here nothing from them. Well I have heard nothing and the letter still shows received at the PO. For fun, I just went to the RCMP site and checked on the status of my app and the following showed:
Licence Application Status Results

Application Number: ##################

Application Received on: 2013/03/22

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

So, it looks like it finally got their after all this BS.

I know it's likely impossible for anyone to google this information, but I called in today and was told my Rpal & Pal app was sent off to the CFO immediately following my the last reference interview (37th day after they received my application), and the RCMP website will not show any update untill my license is issued. Therefore it is not necessary once your references have been contacted (mine were both contacted immediately after my interview, by the time I called them to tell them I had my interview so expect a call, less than 10 minutes after mine was completed) to call in confirming your application was sent to the CFO because the website still shows:

Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

I was told the 45 day mark is their goal to completing your application, and completing your application is achieved when their goal is reached if they send the application to the CFO by 45 days. This is somewhat misleading as it would currently be worded to infer that it will take 45 days to process your application, and after processing you will either be approved or denied. In fact, you will simply go to step two. The RCMP say to call back at the 90 day mark if you have not seen anything, as this additional 45 days is what the CFO might require to approve an application.

So I should expect about 90 days as per previous posters experience.

And people thought 45 days was slow and inefficient...

Wow, I am on pace for a quick approval. My application was received April 4th. I faxed my results in yesterday and they scanned em already. I did my interview this morning and my refs are calling in today as well. Hasn't even been a month yet! Hopefully it doesn't take forever sitting an the Ontario CFO.

Mine was sent registered mail, and someone signed for it on April 2nd. But the system says it was received on the 12th, does this mean the latter is the official date?

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)
Hellz yeah! That was fast! Took me 29 days total to get my RPAL.

I just called in to get my PAL number so I could order some ammunition and they told me they can't give it over the phone. Did I get a bad agent or is this true?

can you make purchases with just the number? I always thought vendors needed to see at least the whole card.

Also congrats on PAL! Did you go through the Ontario CFO? 29 days is pretty quick! hope mine is as timely.

Well if you purchase ammunition online you can't exactly show your card.
I believe you aren't required to give your PAL number though, right? So technically if I wanted to, I could purchase ammunition?

You need a PAL to purchase both firearms and Ammo. No PAL # = no purchase.

Have you tried calling the Ontario CFO extension # directly? I saw in this thread that some ppl managed to get their PAL# over the phone, depending on what province they are in?

Yes, but technically I have one.. only the card isn't in my possession.
I also see that on Canadian retailers, PAL is a field but not required when checking out. That's why I'm asking.

For instance, on one retailer there is a field when checking out:

"Firearms Information (Optional for Firearms purchases)"

You can place an order but they won't complete or ship the order until they get PAL information from you. You are SOL until you get that number.

Hello,

I just want to share my experience with the Application process I have so far. So I applied for my PAL this April. Since last week the online Status Shows that it completed the initial processing and it is in progress. The status also says they received the app by April 8th this year. I haven't called in yet because that it shows online and from what I read here that it is in a normal time frame. However any good advise or suggestions are always welcome

My app was put in a mail box on Sunday march 17, for a restricted licence having only an expired FAC.
March 27th 13 days later and was told (wrongly) your 28 days start from the day it is put in the system.

March 28th called to verify 28 day wait time was told correct wait start point when it arrives they stamp it to start your 28 days duration.

I called on April 15 (27 days in) to check its status I was told they sent me a letter requesting document showing my full middle name, it was faxed the next day.

April 16 28 days in asking if they received my fax told not yet call in about 2 weeks and they may have it

April 17 called in to verify my fax was received. I was told yes. So asked so I asked if I am ready for the interviews? I was told no I did not attach a file explaining why I left a job in the last 5 years.

I got the person to check that there was no more information to fax in and faxed it on the 18th.

Called on the 19th fax not received.

April 18th I Called and was told my fax was received and I am ready for the interview. I called did my interview then got both of my references to call and do theirs. After they were done I called back and was told it was off to the CFO for NB. Called NB CFO was told its not done yet call back in a month if you don't get it.

April 19 called CFO for NB was told its not done call back in 2 weeks if I do not receive it.

April 23 called CFO for NB advised I have passed and the licence is being send asked for Licence number I was told I needed to show my licence anyways so she would not give me the licence number. I told her I needed it for internet transactions and she gave me my number.

May 1st actual licence arrives at my home.

Total time to get my licence number 37 days total time to receive my licence card 45 days. Tomorrow is the gun show I need it for so by the skin of my teeth.
