My new project gun: 7.62X39 Valmet Hunter :)

Good idea - I'll pm you when I get it closer to being finished :)

If they don't want to, I can help out. (they might refuse on the basis that except for Quebec, it is actually illegal to record that information)

I live in Quebec. I can call, register it, and send you the registration certificate. Then deregister it, say I sold it to John Doe in Labrador. That way, you get what you need without having to actually register a gun in your name.

PM if you're interested, I'm up for helping a fellow CGNer out. It'd be paying it forward, someone helped me out once too ;)

Does it not say "Valmet Hunter" on the side of the receiver? Like I said, just get the FRT number and associated FRT chart printed off from the FRT database pertaining to the Valmet Hunter. That will do the same as any registration card and won't require actually registering the gun.

The info will say "non-restricted" on it.

How well did the buttstock fit? I understand you'd need a filler - that's a given, but did the bolt hole and the edges line up?

What did you have to do to make the fore grip fit if anything?

Also interested in what was done for the conversion as I have a spare one in 308 I'd love to be able to convert...

Foregrip isn't difficult, find a Galil front and rear handguard retainer.

The rear is straight forward, it just has to fit around a barrel at the receiver. The .223 restrainer is the easiest to find and a dremel can grind it to size.
The front can be made with a split shaft collar welded to the front Galil retainer, at this point it clamps to the barrel.

I am wondering why 7.62x39. I thought the galil is 5.56x45(223) anyway?

Is it easier or make more sense to use a Hunter 223 to convert to a galil clone??

Seeking advice from guys that have done Valmet to Galil Conversions. I have a complete Galil .308 SAR parts kit coming. I have a spare stamped .308 M78 and a .308 milled hunter. Would the conversion be easiest on the hunter or the M78? I prefer to do the conversion on a milled receiver instead of the stamped M78 plus butchering a hunter sits a little better with me than an M78. Also will the Galil Barrel, gas assembly and bolt fit a hunter or only the M78?

Probably the hunter. The milled receiver is the heart of the Galil.

I am also looking advice for converting 223 hunter to M76 or Galil clone

Does the Galil or M76 furniture can fit on 223 hunter without any problem or with minimum modification ??

Any info will be help

Thanks guys

It's a Valmet hunter. I believe it started life as a .308 but I could be wrong.

Hunters were never made in 7.62x39

I'd like to see some pictures of the magwell and inside of the reciever. Kind of curious if it looks like the hack of the month.
