that means the barrel is not indexed properly... everything on that barrel is precut to to be properly in place when the barrel is in correctly. i would wager that your oprod runs a bit to one side or the other in relation to the gas cylinder.

My fix was a GLFS but I still haven't figured out what to do about a flash suppressor/muzzle brake with the damn metric thread. Any suggestions for what seems to be a pretty common problem?
 
Some will say threads are close enough screw on what ever you can find.

Somewhere in transit is a muzzle brake made to fit on the metric thread. i will be one of the first to get it and one of the first to do a range test.

I think there is also someone selling some on ebay that will thread on directly

p.s this wont help you if you are using iron sites
p.p.s M14.ca has a nice front site/brake set up, again dont know how the fit is with the metric threads.

I was thinking about ditching the front sight and mounting a scope, I am thinking off skipping the lower grade scope mount like the little side mount like utg. I was looking at the casm from m14 .ca . I was wondering if it would be worth it to spend the extra 100 $ to have the metal verson vs. The aluminum one? I was liking the aluminum price and weight, any opinions on this guys? I am mainly looking for folks who have actual use with them.

Well in the future I am planing on going this route with a blackfeather. As for scole it will most likely be a burris e1 3-9x40 so weight shouldn't be a issue.
 
I got a couple of noob question for you m14 gurus?

Is the op rod guide suppose to be loose on the barrel?

It seems like my gas key is misaligned is that a problem or strictly cosmetic?

op rod off center is usualy a sign that the barrel is off indexed. not so much the gun will not operate but its off regardless.
The gas lock being a bit off.... as its on tight... meh... but that line on the gas cylinder... that would worry me... could very well be a hairline fracture. Hard to tell with a picture, could be a line in the finishing... but since one of these rifles in this batch has come with a split gas cylinder i mihgt want to inspect it.

So if the barrel is over indexed but did not blow in my face with the first 20 round should I be good? The line on the gas cylinder seems to just be a casing mark.

I'm not use to asking so much noob question. Don't frank sell adjustable op rod guide, so how the hell do you remove this one? You don't cut it of don't you?

And were would I find a pin for mine?

At my clinics, we 'punch' out the old pin, dimple the barrel surface where the op rod guide interfaces, and then re-install the pin, sometimes we re-use the old pin. Speaking of old pins, the early Norcs from the 2003 series had super THIN walled pins that shattered upon removal. :eek:

Back in the 80's with my many, many USGI M14 rifles, ALL of them were so loose, the guides would align the op rods HALFWAY over the side of the gas piston. :cool:

AND That was normal, or the way they came from Israel! Good , bad , or indifferent !! :evil:
