put a Cabela's home brand, Pine Ridge 3x9 on my new 10/22
i followed my dad, he had picked one up a couple months ago.
as far as i can see they are the best bang for the buck out there.
i think mine was $109 or $129
as for using the stock iron's as back up, get some rings that arnt solid and have holes in them, they are made for that.

Do you think it would still fit into the bag if mounted on shoot through rails?
How about a Nikon P-22 2-7x32? Not as low-budget as some of the options thrown out there, but that and quick detach rings might be good combination for what you're after. It's the scope I'd like to drop on a semi when I get one.
