I finally took the big leap and ordered my dream 1911 to join my stainless 1911 collection. While I did try to find where I could buy one in Canada, there was only one dealer (who was helpful) but the lead time could be as long as 10 to 12 months. After reading a few comments about IRUNGUNS.CA I decide to see if I could find one in stock through the US gun auction sites. I found the one I wanted and the price was reasonable, even with the import fee.

I will update my transaction experience and include an overview of the gun and it's quality and accuracy when I receive it.

Import fees are well defined on IRUNGUNS web site
http://www.irunguns.ca/import-process.php

Import Process (so far, I will update each step)
1. 26/05/13 I registered with GunBroker and cited IRUNGUNS LLC will facilitate FFL transfers. They enabled my account and I contacted dealers that have a FFL, as it seemed like the easier route to get the import process started.

2. 27/05/13 I found a dealer that was okay with the transaction, http://www.5280armory.com/home.html

3. 29/05/13 I have purchase the gun and filled out IRUNGUNS import form.

4. 30/05/13 IRUNGUNS sent their FFL and the gun was shipped from dealer.

5. 01/06/13 Parcel delivered to IRUNGUNS USA location.

6. 17/07/13 Received the gun . Total landed price completed was about 10% below Canadian quote.

7. 17/07/13 Took the gun to the range. Only had time to shoot 100 rounds of Wolf 200gr SWC. Accuracy is exceptional. See 15 yard grouping pic.

At this point, I wait, as .....

"we close all exports out on the 15th of each month and apply for all the permits. Once everything is processed and shipped out the export will arrive in Canada the first week of the following month. It will take a few days to clear customs and once back at our warehouse we will re-inventory everything, package and ship it out. You will receive a final invoice for the GST, importation, shipping to your place of residence, and tracking information through Canada Post. This will be followed by a payment link. Once we receive payment we will ship out your order. "

...so I'm hoping to see the gun around July 31ish....

Actual pistol

Les Baer 1911 Concept VI, .45 ACP, 5 in BBL, Prem Chk Cocobolo Grips, Stainless Finish, 8 Rds

Product Description

Les Baer pistols are custom built by hand and may take up to 6-8 months to complete depending upon current demand.

Identical to the Concept V© but with a Baer deluxe fixed combat rear sight.

Baer's line of Concept pistols pushes the envelope for the perfect combination of ahead-of-the-art design, true custom craftsmanship, unparalleled performance, and the best value in the firearms industry. All Concept© pistols come with a crisp 4 lb. pull and all are guaranteed to deliver 3" groups at 50 yards.

The Baer Concept VI© is a full size custom 1911 with features that include:
Baer steel NM frame, NM slide and NM barrel with Baer stainless bushing • Slide fitted to frame • Double serrated slide • LBC deluxe low mount rear sight with hidden rear leaf • Baer dovetail front sight • Baer beavertail grip safety w/pad • Baer checkered slide stop • Tuned Baer extractor • Baer extended ejector • Baer deluxe hammer and sear • Lowered and flared ejection port • Polished feed ramp and throated barrel • Baer flat serrated mainspring housing • Beveled magazine well• Baer extended ambi safety • Baer fitted speed trigger with action job • Baer Premium Checkered Cocobolo grips • Tuned for total reliability • (1) 8-round premium magazine

10 rounds at 15 yards. I can see getting the so-called 3" grouping at 25 yards plus, in the right hands. It took me 100 rounds of practice to get this tight of a grouping.

Overall thoughts about the gun. It's actually nothing exceptional from a cosmetic point of view. I would actually just think it's a stock 70 series 1911 from a distance. That being said, it's the hardest tightest slide I have ever functioned. Fit and finish is nice, but so is my Dan Wesson SSC and S&W E series. Being a layman, I'm not sure which of the 3 has more so called "junk" parts in it. But I would say all 3 are of the same quality visually. I'm somewhat disappointed that the Baer came with a blued barrel instead of their stainless barrel and I will probably change the combat sights. The DW SSC is not as accurate as the Les Baer, with the S&W not far behind both.

The DW and S&W are about $700.00 cheaper then the Les Baer. So, I think I will have to give the gun some time to determine if I see the value.

I too am waiting for a Baer 45(a premier 2).Im having the gun built to my specs. However,Im pretty sure that you will have youre Baer in hand before me.I ordered mine in Feb 2012 through a Canadian dealer who deals with these type of orders,Im still waiting(I think the order was only actually put in the beginning of this year, and Im hoping the gun is here November or so!,so almost a 2 year wait)

I think that if I had to do it again,I would go youre route and order a existing stock Baer through an outfit like irungun.Im happy that my gun will be exactly what Im looking for,but would also be quite happy with the gun that you will(hopefully!)have in the next few weeks.

The good things in life are worth waiting for I guess

Congratulations on the purchase!

What payment method did you use; I found that paying the seller was always a pain when importing pistols as they usually don't take canadian credit cards...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they seem to be the same gun, just blue vs stainless?

Are they really as flawless in their quality and accuracy as I have been brainwashed to believe?

They are similar but... 2.5'' group/3''group, tritium night sights, 3 mags, wooden box, different safety, deburred for tactical carry and a few other things. The SRP is more a defense/carry gun than the concept.

The concept usually comes with a serrated mainspring housing but whoever ordered your gun also added a custom two piece checkered magwell...very nice!:)

I like everything about the Les Baers except maybe the grips.....

OK

Baers are all about performance, no junk parts, all hard fit - you won't outshoot the gun, and it'll hold its accuracy. Not as flashy as some, but very tough to find a better performing gun, at any price.

Just got a Baer from Wanstalls; I'm still breaking it in.

Guaranteed 3" group at 50 yards (if the operator is that good). Comes with a 4 lb trigger which is 1/2 lb over the 3 1/2 lb Bullseye limit.

Shot a much tighter group than my Colt Gold Cup Trophy right out of the cardboard box.
