I've read a few posts regarding the methods used to clean these pistols.

I found that G96 cuts through the cosmoline like a hot knife through butter

I soaked a paper towel with Outters Nitro Solvent and passed over the outside of the gun.
Put a couple of patches through the barrel, soaked in the same.
Then soaked a paper towel with WD 40 and wiped down the outside. Same with barrel.
It's range ready in 15 minutes.
Put fifty shots through it with no problems, and likely won't need cleaning again, 'till the case is empty.
After all, it's a Norinco.:)

Ordered: April 23
Transfer Initiated: May 10

Waiting on BC CFO. Called but they havent gotten to mine yet.

No big deal, gives me time to get grips and mags.

Thai tug boat and canpar-canam-cfo tied!
Canpar called to tell me the package was ready for pickup and then 10 minutes later the post girl arrive with my grips.

pic of grips for now, gun pics later...

These came to $25.97 total - shipped and all taxes and fees included. (ebay)

Hogue rubber grips from Brownells on the way. JUST ARRIVED with some other 1911 assorted parts.
PS If you like rubber try bicycle inner tubes cut to size - on any pistol grip.

Just got my package today and I'm pretty impressed with it all. The blueing is much nicer than I've seen on other Norincos. No cracked grips, cleaned it easily with some regular cleaner and gun oil. Looks like an authentic GI gun. Gonna get 2 extra mags and leave it alone. Very happy so far. Thanks to Canada Ammo for a great deal.

I ordered those wood grips from DX. The screw holes are a bit tight for the Norinco, caused a bit of cracking when forced on (for $20, who cares). Nothing major, just something to be aware of.

Well 30 minutes in the ultrasonic cleaner and got err lubed up.

Feels quite nice.

I was thinking of ordering a 1911 grip from DX. You can get a plastic wrap-around one for $13, or a wood one for $25.

Chris said he'd ship out a new set of rubber grips. I was digging around and stumbled across the original rubber grips I got from my first 1911 4 years back. Oh well - never hurts to have spares.

Almost funny the last folks to get it are the ones in BC, esp. those in the GVA that are just one day shipping away.

Ordered my 3rd combo just now.

Im keeping the first gun and ammo, sold the 2nd gun (pre-sold) to a friend for $250, pre-sold the 3rd gun to a friend for another $250 and have agreed to sell them ammo at $20 a box, as much as they need/want. If I was to sell the entire 1000 rounds I would end up with $650... $125 profit and everyone is EXTREMELY happy about the deals they are getting.

Neither of these guys has received their RPAL in the mail yet so the guns are staying in my safe until they get their licenses and the transfers are complete. But at least they got in on the deals before they were gone.

I cant believe there are still combos to be hand though. I have to think the pile must be getting pretty small by now.

well, mine arrived, couldnt be happier... the finish is on par with anything else... at the price point I am literally laughing.

the norc grips are rubbish... very plastic feeling, but I have some resin pearl grips that look fabulous on it... that they are marked "colt" immediatly makes my non norinco marked gun worth 600$

excellent deal... going to be hard not to buy a 2nd

the CFO office in Mirimichee told me yesterday there was something like 3000 of these 1911's in the original import. Interesting...

Wow. Cool to know but Mr. or Ms. Miramichi shouldn't be sharing that. (At least I wouldn't think so) <shrug>
