Hey CGN,
I have a problem with magazines not seating, or not 'locking' in to my DDM4 V5 and also into my RRA LAR-15 but never with my Norinco. When I have a more than several rounds in any mag, USGI, PMAG, or LAR-15 the magazine will not lock in. I have to smack the bottom (give it the love tap). The severity of the issue seams to increase with the amount of rounds I have and also is a bigger issue with the LAR mag , than the PMAG than the USGI (USGI being the least problematic).
From this I'm beginning to think that the spring compression is resisting the seating. I have been told to try and shave a thin slice off the follower to prevent this issue. However, I feel that will not make a huge difference since, I've tried 8 or 9 rounds in the LAR and the problem still persists, although to a lower degree, and still exists with PMAGS and thats 5/30 which are under a lot less spring compression.
A fellow shooter at a Tac Match suggested I should get a gun smith to grind down the bolt inside my DD to help alleviate the problem. This would be undesirable.
So my questions are:
Is the seating issue common for AR-15?
How much force do you guys put? Does your mag require the love tap (my norinco never did)?
What's the best solution?
Thank you.
