I'm looking for my first pistol, I might shoot IPSC but not guaranteed.

Mostly paper hole punching for me, no MIL or LEO application.

I plan to take Silvercore handgun classes, and others if I can find something good.

Cost is not a big issue, but I don't want something limited edition that costs $2000 either.

I want something reliable, parts reasonably easy to get should I need them, smooth and ergonomic (I realized this is based on my hand size 9-10 but in reviews it's often mentioned) and foremost accurate. I know a bit about machining, so bad fit and finish is something that will drive me nuts. I need something made well to enjoy it thoroughly.

Please give me your feedback on the merits of either gun or another suggestion should you have one.

I hoping someone on here has shot both.

Thanks so much for your time.

Best advice is to go to a range and try different guns. Everyone on here will tell you want they like but first hand experience is the best.

DA/SA guns are harder to learn and far harder for a novice to shoot. The P30 costs like - well, like an HK (seriously $80 for a mag??) and HK parts are far from common, HK service in Canada is from the worst wholesaler in the country. If you're looking for a "normal" holster (as opposed to a racing 'gun bucket') the CZ will be an issue. CZ's have been known to puke when ridden hard.

What would be proper etiquette for this type of thing? I'm new :)

Assuming you are so new you do not belong to a range you might consider posting in the newbie forum under the mentor thread. If you are lucky someone might take you out and let you try out their stuff.

The far easier but more expensive route is to go to DVC in poco and pay to try out different pistols. I haven't been there in a couple years and from what I remember the staff is not exactly big on customer service but they do have a great selection so you can compare lots of pistols.

P30L with lem trigger, no superflous ####, pull gun out pull trigger if there is a round chambered and ammo is good it will go till empty.

CZ 75 is a very nice pistol and has a wonderful front sight out the of the box. Although DA/SA may get some time to get used to, I am sure with practice it wont be a problem. However, I do have a big concern with the gun for newbies. In the Black Badge class I took couple weeks ago, one guy shooting the CZ 75 had an accidental discharge while trying to decock the gun. It will be great if the CZ has a decocker.

That being said, I think the most important thing is first go try how different gun feels while you holding it. Find the one that you feel the most comfortable. If possible, find a way that you can shoot the gun and see if you like it. Like TPeck suggested, DVC is a great place to go to try different guns. That is what I did and although DVC didn't have all the guns I would like to try, it sure helped me sort out the guns that I wouldn't like to shoot.

CZ does make a 75B with a decocker, just not the shadow..

I love my p30 L V3 with the DA trigger, there are a couple used ones on the EE which brings the price down substantially!

PM me or email me rob@activeshooter.ca if you want to come out and try either one at a Skills and Drills class in Abbotsford. We have members with pretty much every type of handgun you'd ever want to try.

I have both a Shadow and a P30L V1(LEM)

My thoughts in no particular order of importance:

- CZ is a decent "sportsmans" pistol. Great for range outings and the shooting pistol sports (IDPA, IPSC, Steel Challenge and maybe even PPC-duty pistol), but less suited to duty use than the H&K.
- H&K is well suited as a carry (maybe the 'L' model less so), and duty sidearm, but less suited to sport shooting as the CZ.
Both above statements are generalizations and they are both decent firearms in their own right.

It's still the same there. I'm still waiting on my PAL so I've gone to DVC a couple times to scratch the itch.

The male counter staff are horrible. The girls are slightly better. The RO's on the other hand are funny and friendly though.

Just watch out though. During busy times they may not have the gun you want and will substitute with a similar pistol. Maybe it was just an isolated case for me. It wasn't a big deal for me since I got 2 of the 3 guns I asked for. The 3rd one was something I never handled before so I tried it anyways.

But yes, pretty expensive. Expect to spend at least $100 there each time since you have to use their ammo when you use their guns

Personally, I don't care for H&K pistols. I know they are well made and reliable guns but I just don't care for the overall feel of them. I love CZs - hard to beat their quality and price point. Heavy enuff to pistol whip the intruder too if you run out of ammo.

What did you ask for and what did you try Allene350?

First Visit:
1. Asked for Sig Sauer P226 and received
2. Asked for Beretta 92fs and received

Second Visit:
1. Asked for Sig Sauer P226 and received
2. Asked for CZ 75 and received
3. Asked for HK P30 but not sure what I received lol. The RO said Walther something.

I'm guessing all these guns are high round count and look very used but serviceable...kinda like the whores at the local whorehouse lol

Pardon the offensiveness. Just trying to make a pervy joke.
