SKS suggestions?

from various sites i searched, the Chinese SKS seems too be the best.
the best accurate one were from China.

of course you aint going to hit a penny at 400feet with a Simonov anyway...

i've had OVER 10 sks rifles...
yugoslavian are the nicest, truly collectable
russian (hardwood & laminate), ...finding a 'so called' unfired russian is truly collectable ('49 w/spike bayo more so)
chinese sino-soviet (early chinese military), great gun, underated, best deal for a shooter
chinese commercial...lacking fit/finnish/collectability, usually good shooters
sks-d (highly over rated)commercial, quality?, only sks' i ever had not function), a joke at today's pricing ($99 new in the '90's) buy a cz instead

the whole russian/chinese thing is like harley vs metric/japenese bike (i've had both)
...no matter how nice the metric, or how crappy the harley, ears still perk when you say 'harley'
a harley will always bring money for being a harley...though the metric may be a nicer ride...

don't mean to threadjack - but is the Yugo one you're talking about the same one that Marstar is selling for around $430? the M59-B? i'm actually also considering picking up an SKS, and not sure if to go with Marstar's package deal (chinese sks + 1440 rounds), or get the ammo and that yugo sks instead.

so, how good is THAT yugo m59-B from marstar?

I personally LOVE the Russian guns, they designed and then prolifically sold them or the design around the world to all their Commie friends, neighbors and the like! But they are they originals and while maybe not as "nice" as a Yugo, they are truest to me heart! And my 1949 Tula that appears to be as close to unfired as there is is the most special to me.(it has a very faint refurb mark, but the bolt has no primer ring and the gas piston has ZERO pitting or buildup and NO discoloration) If it has been shot (other than proof round) it does not have many rounds through her. Check out Westrifle if ya want one, they have a few left.

Guys we have many questions about SKS that is coming to our warehouse on June 25th. Please pre order online and put in comments the year you want. We only have hardwood for sale, please be aware of that.

russian one from each arsenal stock no changes required if you appreciate that sort of thing otherwise safe a few get the norinco chinese and mr patatoe them
and shoot them either way most important point

I know many of you are very passionate about the SKS line. I'm looking for advice on where and what to buy.

Russian?
Norc?
Refurbished?
Laminate stock or solid?

Most retailers seem to be at the $200 mark, but many of the "used" ones on the EE are more than that (EE math wtf?). There are some SKS-d versions which are in the $800 range, but no obvious signs of why. Anyway just looking for some insight from the collective.

Thanks
Check out your local major retailers, can't help you there being from BC. The Russian SKS is the original and the best built in my opinion.
I have a 1954 Tula Russian and I'm quite happy with it, especially after doing the YouTube Sailor Curt 5 part modification of the trigger.
It now has a smooth light trigger, not quite as nice as an Accutrigger, say, but a light year removed from the original! Mine is a refurb
but if you're going to shoot it as opposed to collect it, that's not a big deal. I don't shoot corrosive so I put a stainless Murray's firing pin
with spring in there, recoil buffer, and tritium sights. I polished the inside of the receiver and bolt, and it cycles like silk now. It's a 100
yard rifle, but it's fun, and makes a change from my precision bolt action hunting rifles. I got mine with a laminate stock as I'd heard
they were stronger and more resistant to cracking. Get a Russian SKS and enjoy! :) $200 is the fair price for an SKS, btw...

I like the ones from the former USSR the best - historical significance and all that - but, quite honestly, for a shooter and one that appears to be very well constructed the genuine military Chinese SKS ( Not the Norc copies ) are IMO the best.

I don't always stab zombies, but when I do, I prefer the spike bayonet on the Chinese SKS.

It's a little bit longer, so you have a better chance of sticking it through two zombie heads. In the folded position, it doesn't interfere with your grip on the fore-stock.

Also, when the day of zombie stabbing is done, the spike bayonet is better for cooking food over an open fire. The blade just wrecks the meat chunks, if you're trying to make Xinjiang style zombie kebabs. Clearly, a tapered spike is superior in all regards.

Anyone who says "zombie" more than once in a single post has very little credibility.

Get a Russian

I have a Russian and had a Yugo 59/66.

I really loved the feel of the 59/66 but decided to sell her as I didn't shoot it that much.

The surviving Russian I have wears a PLA (?) red phenolic 'jungle stock' and shoots very well now.

If I had another SKS I would like to try it with one of the fat-boy Yugo 59/66 Beech stocks - they are really really tough, being designed to withstand the rigours of grenade launching.

Correct. Walking Dead is the current politically correct term.

Each country of manufacture has examples that are collectable, and other examples that would qualify as shooters at best.

Of course you will get several opinions about Russians being better, or Chinese being better, but really it comes down to the gun itself. While mass produced, some are great shooters, some are not. It comes down to build quality, refurb quality, etc etc.

At the end of the day if you want a shooter, a run of the mill Russian refurb or a military surplus Chinese will do you just fine.

I always ask what person wants from their gun. This is the only way to choose correct one for the buyer! Refurbs or not it does matter only if you store it and don't use it.

Oh, I forgot to mention that you should get a Russian as a collectible one. The Chinese one with the spike can be used to defend the Russian SKS from the zombies. I heard they were attracted to Cosmoline.

I got a Chinese spike bayonet for some dumb reason. Probably the most useless purchase I have made In a while. Might as well use it as a ground wire connection for what it is worth as a bladed implement. :p

Seriously?
I stuck a pineapple with mine and it went through like butter.
Took a whole lot of cleaning after I lifted it and blew it off point blank with one of those Hornady polymer points.
Totally worth the clean-up, Good times.

It also doubles as a pretty useful screwdriver.
Also, Shish kabobs.
In-boot foot scratcher.
Back scratcher/Butt scratcher.
Clothing drying peg.
Land-mine prodder.
Tent stake.
Campfire marshmellow skewer.
Trail marker.
