Turning a whore into a Lady: My Norinco 1911 rebuild

it kinda scares me that we are doing pretty much the exact same thing, haha!

hey, question for ya, what if anything are you gonna do with the sites?
i was thinking of sending my slide off to a smith somewhere and getting those small stock ones knocked off and getting a fiber optic front cut in and not sure about that back.

what you got on the go for the sites?
anything?

oh, one more question.
are you noticing any rub on your slide when you work the action?
i was noticing some, so i took it down and worked the slide without the spring and barrel in, and that seemed smooth, so im thinking the end lug? or maybe the spring holder thingy?
(im pretty sure thats the name for that part..... spring holder thingy.... that sounds like something JM Browning would say, no?)

To the op:

Funny how nobody even noticed the insulting comments about ipsc members and all other competition shooters. i for one really wonder how a fellow firearm enthusiast can say those words.

How about instead of making us look bad by saying were militia/mall ninjas u come and meet the people participating in ipsc/idpa/uspsa competitions and see that this is the type of comments we try to avoid being said because it gives a bad name to all firearm owners in the general publics eye.

Its a fun sport to actually utilize the firearms in a safe and playfull enviroment instead of just standing like a tree in front of 1 target for an hour and shoot 50 rounds and leave.

If a sport like ipsc etc. is not your thing, that is totally fine, its not for everybody. But in your comments u basicly insulted yourself by saying that.

We are all trying to keep our rights to own firearms but comments like this is always being used by the higher powers to take those rights away.

Stay safe and keep shooting and good looking build

Wow - I thought the OP was just PO'ed because he couldn't get on the range, I didn't think he was out to hurt anyones feelings. Incidentally, anyone who's on a range that stops me from using it is an idiot - just because.

@ PharoH - don't get butthurt, this isn't about you.

@ enefgee you nailed it. I don't care who's on there, any event that ties up ALL the ranges at the club for an entire week and doesn't let the members shoot is going to be subject to my rants. I don't care what "thing" it is, IPSC, PPC, IDPA, cowboys, or the local 'grannies with guns' club - I pay almost $400 a year to be able to shoot my restricted guns somewhere.

I agree, for the next three weekends it's the RCMP at my range. What a bunch of mall ninja losers they are. They used to let other people shoot at the same time as them at another range I used to go to, but they were getting embarrased by all the civillians with no training that could outshoot them, so now they shut down the whole range. They have my local one sewed up for three weekends in a row. And before anyone gets their panties in a twist, I jest.

I didint mean it in a bad way, sorry if it seemed like that, i know how annoying it can be when the range is being occupied and cant shoot. I just dont like it when the word mall ninja or militia is used towards us fellow shooters. The people that dont like firearms always think were irisponsible and bad people for owning guns.

I just dont want to put more fuel in the fire as we say it.

Hopefully the ranges your way clear up for ya and test out that 1911 good

I'm thinking of putting on some tritium night sights... but I'll wait until later for this.

I'm not having this issue. It's not as smooth as I'd like but I think that could be solved with a tiny bit of polishing to the rails.

I'll admit, that I've never been a big fan of anything from China...I have a problem with supporting the knock-off market....BUT, I've seen and held some Norinco's that have totally impressed me. These firearms can be easily transformed into a class A custom, that are as good or better than the brands that they copy. I think there's a place for a Norinco in everyones gun safe...and with not a lot of investment,a fella can have a firearm that is truly built to his own specks.....so yeah....that dirty ol' whore can indeed become your fairytale Princess

I agree with you there. But in this case, the 1911 patent has long expired and EVERYONE makes them so I don't feel like I'm ripping anyone off... also it's going to be re-built with 90% US parts anyway ;)

A Norinco is definitely the bottom price (and quality) in the market, which is why I decided to play around with it so much and totally rebuild it. It will have to REALLY impress me in order for me to trust it. I'm talking 100's of rounds with no stoppages... putting it in the same reliability class as my Glock, my Sig or my Para 1911

Cheers
John

I'd put most factory Norincos above most factory Paras for reliability, personally...particularly in .45.

I've heard some people having issues with Paras... never had an issue with mine and it's the most accurate handgun I've ever fired... by a long margin. It's a tack driver. Also very reliable. But mine was custom made and it's got almost 3K worth of parts in it... :D

If they want to do that, the police should be told that February is the only time available.;)
