Tavor-21 reliability

Well s*#t, apparently I'm the only one who's had issues with a tavor. On a recent carbine course I had multiple failures to feed, double feed, and bolt not holding open on empty. They happened halfway through day 2 and it rained all day. P-mags, LAR and factory mags were used during these failures. I tore the gun right down and inspected every part as thoroughly as I could. I found the gun to be very filthy, and the bolt catch was taking a few very small dings. Basically I have no idea what caused it but the gun did become practically unshootable during the last drill we did. I have it all back together now and put a few rounds through on Saturday without issue. I'll do more testing again soon.

What's your round count on the rifle? I haven't started experiencing malfunctions yet, but my colt catch is starting to get beat up pretty good.

Awe thanks guys.

Honestly though: it hasn't been that bad. We're a modern city with proper infrastructure and pretty effective communication lines. We'll be cleaning up in no time.

You're not the only one sir. I've been emailing with IWI and will have an update soon I promise. I'm supposed to get an update from Israel today.

Your not the only one. =o( My trip to the range 4 weeks ago resulted with the bolt failing to hold open after last round. I do have some dings on the bolt catch. My issue could've been caused by the Wolf ammo I was using. Also had issues with my own reloads 68gr Hornady FMJBT 24.5 gr H335.
Went back this Saturday and had no issues whatsoever but was using PMC TAC.
Go figure. I would still like to get a spare bolt catch/bolt stopper as a spare. Its the only part that's showing some wear and tear.

P-mags(modified specifically as per Mr.presspass' s instruction), a factory mag, and LAR 15 mags all gave me issues. Norinco ammo as well as American eagle.

I've used gen 2 and 3 pmag, lar, caa, and ATRS mags with zero problems. Only issue w gen 2 pmags is they don't drop free.

Apart from not feeding lar mags on a closed bolt... Flawless.

4000 rounds last year without cleaning it once in between, put it away for 3 months dirty. Pulled it back out and not a hiccup.

Oh and that's using dirty Norinco surplus ammo.

I clean mine after every shoot because its fun, not because I have to. ;) Frog Lube just smells so good!

I have a benelli Mr1, a remington 7615 and a tavor........ the tavor is the only one that accepts all ar-15 mags without issues and has not had a single problem yet and I've had it over a year! I would suggest this rifle to anyone who demands the best!!! Lots of $$$ but well worth it! Just remember you might end up spending more trying different non-restricted rifles or spend as much pimping out a SU-16F I would simply suggest the Tavor......... it is so cool like having a gun out of Halo or some future movie!!!

What mags are you guys using?

The Tavor WILL NOT work with polymer mags that do not have a square cut in the back for the bolt hold open.

These.

Pay no attention to this joker... he's not even that familiar with Tavors. ;)
Mine always has and still goes "bang". And as for magazines, I've used everything in mine: Gen 2, Gen 3 and the new M3. No modifications whatsoever.

How's the bolt catch holding up for you?
