Tavor-21 reliability

How's the bolt catch holding up for you?

You mean the original one that's still in-use with no wear? We thoroughly debunked this bolt catch thing some time ago. In fact, if memory serves me - the LAR15 raised the bolt catch just as much as the PMAGs. The best magazine (in terms of movement) was the steel HK416 30-round and the worst was the Surefire 60-rounders.

I kinda want to kick all you guys in the junk. I've treated mine well. Kept it cleaned and lubed. I didn't baby it but didn't abuse it and I did have issues that I can't explain why they happened.

P-mags(modified specifically as per Mr.presspass' s instruction), a factory mag, and LAR 15 mags all gave me issues. Norinco ammo as well as American eagle.

That's because it really won't make any difference: they all slightly raise the bolt catch (1-2mm), which is still less than the 4-5mm clearance with the bolt/carrier. The only magazines that didn't were HK416 steel magazines (but they are slightly different from a standard 30-round, too).

I can't speak for your Tavor, but mine is the last gun I'll ever own.

Not the most up-to-date version, but it still brings a smile to my face. Hopefully TV can make it out this summer to shoot it.

I bought my Tavor two weeks ago and have had nothing but problems with it. I have experienced numerous failure to feeds. I have tried two different magazines and two different brands of ammo and every combination of each. I've also field stripped my Tavor and cleaned it up to the best of my ability and still the problems persist.
I'll probably take it back to the dealer this weekend.
Any ideas as to what might be the problem before I pull the plug?
Thanks.

Could be the ammunition or magazines. What are you using or have tried for both? Mixing steel-cased and brass in the same session has been known to cause issues on other black rifles. What all are you using for cleaning/lubricants?

Whoa! Careful what you ask of Blaxsun, you may not get a Tavor pic in asking about his ###iness :p.

That is probably all you'll get a picture of. Maybe my dog if I can wake him up from his slumber on the lawn... ;)

this is pure ###

Thanks. The photo really doesn't do it justice. I need to get a new camera or improve the lighting in my dungeon, er - workspace. ;)

I've tried the black, no-name mag that came with the Tavor and a cheap plastic Tapco mag. Ammo is 5.56 surplus stuff and Federal American Eagle .223. For cleaning I use G96 Complete Gun Treatment, then Browning Oil for lube.

Not a fan of the Tapco's, but I'm not aware of any reliability issues with those or the stock IWI ones (these have an almost textured coating on them). I typically run PMC or UMC in mine (no issues to-date), but I've used almost everything in it (minus surplus). One thing you could try is only loading them to 4 rounds and see if that makes any difference (might at least eliminate the magazine as the culprit). You could also spray a bit of G96 in the magazine internals (that's worked on CAA magazines that tended to stick or had a FTF).

You could also try some Frog Lube after cleaning and field-strip (pre-heat with a blowdryer for a few minutes, apply and let sit for an hour before wiping down). I do the entire bolt, carrier and inside of the receiver.

TV, have any suggestions?

Thanks Blaxun, I'll try the 4 rounds in mag suggestion. At this point I'll try just about anything! It's just so frustrating when I hear that most folks are having no issues and I can't get 5 rounds out of a single mag!
