LEAST Recoil in Milsurp

Sadly the CA firearms are now confined to the safe and can no longer be transported to a range for shooting. They were a lot of fun to shoot and, because of their weight and buffering by gas systems and springs, made shooting full powered rounds like the .303 and .30-06 a very mellow experience. The BAR and BREN were real pussycats for recoil and the M1/M1928 Thompson virtually eliminated any recoil effect of the .45ACP. The general public is much safer because of this though. Just think of all of those 7-11 stores that have never been robbed by duly registered 12(3) firearms in the hands of MILSURP collectors.

If this is purely a theoretical exercise then I would suggest one of the USAF M6 survival rifles chambered in .22 Hornet/410. Non corrosive ammo can be found for less than $1.00/shot and is capable of reaching 200yds more reliably than .22RF. You could also look for one of the H&R made M4 rifles but I believe these are restricted due to overall length.

I stand by the Thompson being the least recoil (at least to me and things I have fired) The first time I fired it I thought there was something wrong with the gun like maybe just a primer had fired as 1. recoil was not there and 2. even the sound/report sounded "different" After I checked everything out and the Thompson was a happy gun, it was game on, remember this was WAY back in the normal/high cap days. Another couple of pleasant shooters M203 AND M79 "bloop gun" certainly not like what one would see in the movies when fired live.

I found the Reising Model 50 to be quite amazingly accurate.

That 11-inch tube gives you more than 200 ft/sec over the same round from a M-1911, the compensator/flash hider gives almost zero distraction and the closed-bolt system with axial hammer gives no lurch forward when you trigger it.

Altogether a completely FUN gun.... and the recoil is just about all sucked up by the action.

Too bad they are so frightening and dangerous that mine hasn't been to the range now for 10 years.

"Free country", you know.

@silverfoxdj: Reising Model 60 was a dedicated semi-auto which had a commonalty of parts with the selective-fire Model 50 and 55.

What was different was the RECEIVER (made from a chunk of DOM tubing and then machined), the Model 60 Receiver NOT having the extension of the Rear Trigger Lug which would permit the mounting of the Automatic Trip Lever. The gun was inherently semi-auto, needed extra parts to make it full-auto.

A new Reising Receiver with a 19-inch barrel, withOUT the extension for the full-auto Trip Lever, SHOULD be a legal semi-auto.

It would also be a LOT of fun.

My Model 50 has been rendered permanently semi-auto (by removal of the mounting for the Trip Lever) but it still has the "evil" "Model 50" rollmark, so it was, is now and ever shall be, world without end, a machine-gun in Canada. Yet it is MECHANICALLY a Model 60.

Canada has some REALLY screwed-up laws. I only wish the Gummint would kick around the CRIMINALS as much as it does US.

Mosin Nagant M-44. With a Limbsaver recoil pad on it. Get a Limbsaver and shoot whatever you want with no flinch.

The M1 carbine is similar to shooting a 22 rifle.

If looking at MG's the MG34, MG42 and DP28 had little recoil. Especially if the MG34 or MG42 were mounted on a Lafette Tripod as it had an internal recoil/buffer system to maintain accuracy.

And while I am a huge fan of the Thompson I will have to add all other Converted and Full autos to the list of least felt recoil for the past ten years or so since C10A was imposed upon us. No recoil if they are locked away in the interest of "public safety".

42 doesn't kick, anyway, just goes "WAAAAAPPP!" and pushes you backwards a couple inches.

Do that 3 or 4 times and your whole pension cheque is done and you are on a diet of Borshchdt 6 days a week with Sunday pettaheh and homemade kolbassa for the rest of the month!

Love kolbassa but I'll look for something else :)
