Anyone else looking forward to the taste of dove? 15 a day, 45 in possession!!!

All I can think about is BBQ dove, roasted dove, sauteed dove, grilled dove, deep fried dove... HE HE

Best of all, if we find a good field, Nos will love retrieving them!

Cheers

It's been open season in my backyard for doves for the last month. Once a week, in the morning I find a large pile of grey feathers just under the bird feeder.
Either they instantaneously moult or I have a very clever and well fed Coopers Hawk. Good luck on your hunt, the hawks must find them yummy.

Great news!

Now I'll have to keep on the lookout for areas with good numbers to shoot, as well as pick up a few more boxes of #7 steel shot!!!!

sounds good, is it just breast meat?
how many woodcock would make a meal for one?

I've been known to eat 6 woodcock wrapped in bacon. Gonna guess I can easily eat 4 doves wrapped in bacon!

REALLY looking forward to trying them on the BBQ!

Cheers

I just got my small game licence a couple months ago and am trying to decide on something small and managable to start hunting. This might be a good choice.
Thanks for the tip.
I see where guys stand on the wings of grouse and pull there legs to get the breast meat so I'm guessing this would be similar?

They taste great. Dark meat. It would take several birds for a decent meal. Late August I get a great fly way thru my area. Hopefully we can get an exemption on the non toxic shot like the woodcock

There is a line in the migratory bird regs that specifically names doves as requiring non toxic shot.

uhhh, no. you'll just end up with a gawdawful mess (from what I've seen anyway). with such a small bird, it's pretty easy to make a cut along the bottom edge and remove the spine and guts from the breast meat... sort of like cleaning quail.

Good luck though! There's a dove season in BC but it's too far south of my location to make the trip worthwhile. I've eaten dove before and it was pretty good, esp for dark meat.

Thanks for the tip, mind you if I knew how to clean a quail I guess I'd have a better idea of how to clean a dove. LOL
Cheers
