New season for mourning dove hunting in Ontario!!!

Mourning Doves

Picked up a copy of the migratory bird regs. today and, as promised, we have a mourning dove season in Ontario. I wonder how long it will take them to wise up to the fact that they aren't "songbirds" anymore;)

BUT and it's a big but, you are supposed to use non-toxic shot only:mad: Now when I look at a dove, I'm thinking target load and 71/2 or 8 shot size. What is the smallest nontoxic shot you can buy? I know a lot of people will ignore this and use lead as is the case with grouse hunters taking an occassional woodcock with their grouse load. Knowing my luck, that would be just the time the CO's would show up:mad:

Advice needed!

Woodcock are exempt from the non-toxic shot requirement...

Many places are now carrying steel shot in no 7 for doves.

I have been buying #7 steel by Kent for a while, it is fairly easy to find.
I am having more difficulty with the #7 for the 20 though.

yup the shop I buy my ammo just got in 7, 7.5 and 8 shot in both 12 and 20 guage. $14.00 a box (wish it was better but not as bad as other non tox loads). I absolutely refuse to bend the rules as I can't take the chance of loosing or being suspended from being able to be able hunt and fish. Me and my family rely on filling the freezer with wildgame as one of my children is very allergic to preservatives and even has issues with grocery store processed food.

For 20 gauge you can use:
Remington Sportsman Hi-Speed - QTY 25
#7 only
BassPro - $12.99
Epps - $9.99
