Which one do you prefer for home defense, and why? CZ 75 or Glock 17

I am curious as to which one you think is more reliable for the home defense role? I have a shotgun for upstairs home defense, but for stashing a hand gun or two around the first floor, which one would you trust or do you prefer?

well in canada your not allowed to defend yourself. but if it were allowed i would go with the glock and 12 gauge. nothing wrong with the cz75 though it would do just fine

I'd probably pick the glock for simplicity of operation and reliability. Nothing wrong with the CZ if your familiar with it. Stage them secure, it would suck if a burglar found them while your upstairs.

Glock 21 in 45 with extra magazines. A proven gun. Glock will always be around to service any future issues with the gun.

Whichever you can shoot better and your more familiar with

This is the correct answer for sure. I do not like CZ 75s so I would go with the Glock 17 but many many people would not so it's up to what you can shoot best. Don't forget to put a light on there if it's for home defence, most home invaders come at night. Choose the proper ammo (considering both terminal ballistics but also penetration, both in terms of penetrating the intruder but also your neighbours).

Yes, excellent point about staging them!

Yes, I am in North Carolina and have a Concealed Carry, too. I balked for many, many, months about getting the concealed carry, but now that I have it, I am very glad I jumped through the hoops to get it.

The handguns will be secured downstairs, I'm not sure how yet, but it will be in a secure fashion. I have teenagers still at home, and lots of company due to the teenagers, so weapon storage/security is very important.

My neighbor is a single mother with more guns and ammo than I have! I don't want rounds penetrating my walls into her house, or she'll likely launch a counter attack on me! lol

Get a Cold Steel Katana! That's what you need for home defense.

I wouldn't mind a Katana! I'd certainly hate to face a skilled opponent coming at me with such a formidable edged weapon. I think that would be sufficient justification (almost) to pee your pants! lol

Both pistols are used all around the world for law enforcement. I only own a Glock and have some experience with Cz handguns but I would assume both are very reliable guns. It all comes down to your preferred ergonomics and the various handguns you are experienced with. Pistol operation( or any firearm for that matter) should be completely instinctive not conscious. Youre more comfortable with one? get it. And just a side note in case you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to defend your loved one: being in Canada, make sure you hear the robber specifically say: "I'm going to kill you" before involving any firearm in the situation... f:P:2:f:P:2:
