Never owned a high velocity air rifle but would like one. Been shooting for 30+ years but this is one avenue I have no knowledge. Any recommendations? it would be for target shooting and gophers.

I used to have a Crosman Phantom and was impressed with how accurate it was for the money. I paid $100 at wally world for the 495 fps .22 model. They also make a 1000 fps model but it costs almost double that of the 495 fps model and the only difference im aware of is a pin hole in the piston of the 495 fps. So i just plugged that sucker up. I never did chrono it but i noticed a considerable difference afterwards.

Benjamin makes one with a pressure gauge, you pump it up with a foot pump. Solid full size wood stock.

If anyone else knows more about this model please pipe in, I'm interested as well.

Discovery is the model. They are a nice entry level PCP. Accurate and run off 2,000psi. Most PCP's are 3,000psi. Easier to fill with a pump, but the pumping gets old quick.

Not into competition but like quality and accuracy. It will be used for target and gopher pigeon sized animals. Been looking on net and sort of like the Diana 350 magnum and the WeihRauch HW 80. do you guys recommend .177 or .22?

I like .177 for paper targets. and .22 for hunting. So you're looking at break barrels. The Weihrauch will be 10X's the gun the 350 is. I've also heard the 350 has brutal recoil and kills scopes.

If you like CZ, they make a few airguns as well. The CZ200 comes to mind.

You mean the Weinrauch HW80 will be more accurate?

Check out D&L Airguns. This is a Canadian outfit that sells really nice airguns. The Webley & Scott or the Benjamin Sheridan rifles are accurate and not that expensive. Real nice and informative website. Take a look at the Benjamin Sheridan Trail NP all weather in .177 or .22.

I have had both a RWS 350 and still own a HW80K /.22 The German quality speaks for it's self. Kills skunks ,pigeons, crows and grouse no problem.Anything under 25lbs.To smooth out springers a lube tune in recommended along with polishing the internals to remove machining marks.New seals are also need as new from the factory many are damaged or dry.I put in a Macarri mainspring /guide in a RWS 34 and a V/mach kit in the HW80.the HW80 will penetrate 3/4" fence boards at 30 + yards. The Sportsmatch one piece mt is best and the UTG Leaper's mt for the RWS guns+Weaver rings
