New rifle - what optic should I get?

You're kidding, right?
A guy posted a video. He was hitting a 16" gong at 630yd with his XCR using surplus x39. 60% success iirc.
I think he was using a Hi-Lux 1-4x24, 762 reticle.

I'm happy with the scope.

I'd also strongly recommend a Burris PEPR qd mount. Perfect if you'll be switching rifles.

Big but exellent for short range work on 2x zoom, 10x zoom is more then needed for longer shots and has one of the best light gathering properties on the market. It weights the same as most illuminated 1x4 scopes

the round is fine, its just usually used in a beat, worn 70 year old SKS. Not the rifles fault, it was just designed as a minuit of torso rifle.

For the budget posted you can't beat the Vortex 1-4x PST. I work in Burnaby / Downtown. if you want to see what the optics look like on your rifle let me know I can bring them with me if you like. =o)
My buddy has the exact same coloured rifle and we mounted the HDII 1-6x it looked awesome!!

It is doable, 12"x18" gongs at 500 aren't that hard.

Wanstalls does and many other sponsors. Do not waste your your money on the Vortex when you can save buying the CMR and get everything you need in a mid range 1-4x. Even the Millett DMS has a better sight picture. The PST is way over priced for what your get but it has the cool factor. Don't even bother with Vortex unless your willing to dive into Razor glass.
