I was going to point out the sl8 as well, being one of the two most accurate rifles in the category... But (and I own one) it's far from the best due to ergonomics.

And my previous comment about no su16 on the " best of" list was a joke.

I'd go with the swiss arms 223. Accuracy and quality with conventional ergonomics (i.e. you don't have to adopt your handling/manual of arms as in the case of a bullpup).

I was going to vote for the FAMAE 308, but we/I just don't know how this will perform just yet until we get some reviews.

I think the Ruger Mini-14 should be on the list...not a fan favorite but ti goes bang all the time and 100s of aftermarket options for it. Maybeee the KEL TEC SU-16? BUT they come off cheap to me and do not think they can take any real abuse/high round counts.

For a first choice, mine would be either the 540 or the Swiss Arms.

For one who is either on a budget, or a traditionalist, or both, the Ruger Mini 14 is the old reliable.
