mag capacity question

Bear in mind that length (2 3/4, 3, 3 1/2) refers to the unloaded hull, loaded rounds are appreciably shorter. On average a loaded 2 3/4 is 2 5/16 inches and a loaded 3 inch is 2 1/2 to 2 5/8 inches, so you will have to redo your math. There are also variations in loaded ammo length between manufacturers. Spring and follower length factor in as well as they take up space wthin the tube, based on design and make/model of shotgun, so it is difficult to give a generic answer.

I learned something new today! Thanks
I didn't believe you so I went and measured some shells and yep they're all almost half an inch shorter. Now I feel like I've been ripped off all these years!

I know for sure that a 9 3/8" extension on a Benelli SBEII with the factory follower will not hold 6 rounds of 3.5" shells (tried 4 different brands).

No worries, we all tend to exaggerate length and claim something is X inches long, when in reality it isn't.......;)

Rather than obsess over how big it is, I suggest the OP focus on how to use it properly....a good spare ammo set-up (carrier comp, micro rig, side saddle etc.) and time spent practicing reloading drills will more than compensate for lack of length (capacity).

Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.

I'm planning on getting a semi auto tactical 12ga soon and am mainly looking at the Mossberg 930 and Remington 1100/11-87. I know that the mag tube is for 5 of the largest shells the gun is capable of firing and know that fitting six 2 3/4" shells in a 3" gun is fairly common. However, if I were to get the 935 or remington super mag (3.5") would I be able to fit seven 2 3/4" shells if it is plugged at 5.9 3.5" shells.

More or less trying to figure out if it would be worth the extra couple bucks for a 3.5" gun.

You are not supposed to shoot slugs out of a Mossberg 935.
I just put a +3 extension from Cactus Tactical on my Winchester SX3 3.5". Can only get 5 rounds of 3.5" and 7 rounds 2.75", plus a ghost and 1 in the chamber. My SX3 eats any ammo.
Want to go smash turkey or ducks, take off extension, install plug and stock mag cap.

I am waiting for a used Remington Versa Max Sportsman 3.5".
Much easier to get 3 gun parts for them. Lifters, oversized bolt releases.

No slugs in the 935? Well that's out.

Dweano, yes they have to be marked for 3.5". Off the top of my head I know the 11-87 supermag and Mossberg 935. There are more though.

How many semi auto shotguns fire 3.5ers? They have to be marked as being able to fire 3.5 don't they?

Yes gun has to be marked 3.5".
If Remington would NOT have marked the Versa Max Tactical as 3" it would have been perfect out of the box 3 gun shotgun for Canada.

If you really want a 3.5", there are only 2. Versa Max or SX3. The 11-87s are no good for twins or quad loading.

Buy the way my SX3 is for sale. New SX3 incoming.

Yeah that is what I was alluding too. Too bad they didn't label VMT as 3.5. The VersaMax sportsman is 3.5 tho
