Mosin Nagant Video Recoil Challenge

The steel butt-plate KILLS!

It's bearable when shooting 'merican loads, or PPU perhaps... The S&B on the other hand.

The worst recoil I can feel is from my 30-30 Winchester carbine, I almost hate pulling the trigger on that one. Yet my 30-30 Rifle is fine for recoil.

I shot most of 100rds out of my Mosin PU today, 100 out of my No4(T) and 20 out of my Ross MkI* without a shirt on, prone. Its all about hold. Don't hold properly and it'll sting, hold properly and you can shoot all day long. Watch your follow through like a hawk and it lessens the sting even more. My pointless .02 worth.

Well said...

I always shoot mine from prone.
The most I've done on a single day was probably around 40-50 rnds.
But never in any short period of time. My shoulder is usually a bit stiff after.

Oh yes and it seems to hurt more with an M44 carbine lol

Yeah the 44 would be a little hard on the shoulder laying down. Nice signature. You need to do a video reply.

ive shot proboly 100 or so rounds from prone without a issue, planning on going to the range tommorow i guess ill bring a cam and some extra ammo. thanks for a reason to shoot more :)

Seems like good incentive to get out and shoot my Izhhesk which I haven't shot since I got it last December. Got my other Mosin set up with scope(rear sight mounted) but guessing scopes are not allowed in this challenge? Maybe even try out the M44.

well that sucks some how the sd card with the vid and pics of the set up corrupted, gonna let my more computer wise room mate mess with it in the mean time heres the target

not very good acuracy 37 shots on the paper but i was constantly shooting then reload as fast as i can and continue shooting, i actually discollored the finish the rifle got hot enough :p when i do it again to get a working vid ill slow down and get a better grouping

no bruse and my shoulder feels fine btw went on to shoot 20 or so 303 brittish rounds and 40 or so 30-30

A friend of mine had some weird Remington pump action in .30-06(!!!) out at the range the other week with a 10 round see through mag lol It had like a 16" barrel on it. Not sure exactly but it was short.

I shot 2 rounds through it from the prone.

I've never felt worse recoil on a rifle, it was unbearable! :(

I'll take the camera out next time I get my 44 Mosin Carbine out. Should be fun to see just how inflamed and how much permanent damage I can do to my shoulder lol

As much as I love my Mosin there's just no way I'd try this from seated or prone. I'm just too "boney" I guess.... :D

I made the mistake of trying my Mosin from seated for about 10 rounds for grouping prior to trying out some slightly reduced recoil .44Mag handgun loads for accuracy. My arm was so shocky from the Mosin that the handgun rounds I did fire before I realized my mistake were a total waste of powder, lead and copper... :D

Oddly enough standing isn't a biggie. I'm pretty sure I could shoot 40 rounds from standing without needing an icepack. But the group size from standing would suffer a lot. I'm just too wobbly. Would it be OK to shoot from crossed sticks or braced of a support pole for the firing line roof?

That's a good point. I'm a very lean and wirey guy so it's usually sharp edged metal plate on collar bone and some shoulder bone type of contact in the prone for me.

Also (sorry if I offend anyone with thin skin here (bad pun :D) but the guy in the original video is um......"well padded"?

Very nice sir. Your man card is stamped for the next few years :) There is a video reply off the orginal and the guy gets a burn from his receiver. I'm waiting for my stripper clips to come in before I do this. My range's rifle range is down for repairs but I found a back up.

On the other hand I was 225 in grade 9 and have been 185-305 pounds as an adult it is all cool. I am who I am and I'm too old to worry about others but on the other hand I would like you all shoot this challenge.

Here is my sad entry shot on Sunday labor day weekend. Not exactly a tight group but it was overcast, humid, the rifle was already warm & I used the bayo both times I tried. Thankfully, this rifle has no shellac on it or it would have melted off. Received it on Friday & damned near set it on fire on Sunday. Good times!

I was shooting my 1911 dated Izhevsk M1891 in prone with MFS ammo and my shoulder was different shades of black and blue and bruised for a week after the recoil from two boxes of ammo. I also was wearing a t-shirt so that didn't help matters much.

I learned my lesson and now bring a towel or an extra shirt as a shoulder cushion for shooting sessions.
