I just picked up a ruger sr-22, I never tried the factory mag yet but used a butler creek 25 round mag but I don't thing its the issue, the shells don't seem to be extracting and getting stuck in the chamber. Anyone else have this issue. It could be the ammo, American eagle 36 grain. I can't get three rounds without a jam.

Spent casings left in the chamber after firing? How far back is the bolt travelling? Sounds to me like light rounds without enough force to cycle the action. If the bolt doesn't travel far enough to the rear to hit the ejector then it will just rechamber the spent case. The BC mag could be adding to the problem if it hasn't been filed down to clear the bolt yet. It will rub the bolt and slow it down and so will the spring pressure when the mag is loaded up. Try hotter ammo, the factory mag and check to see if the bolt contacts the feed lips on the BC mag. I run CCI Blazer in all my .22s and it works great.

Yeah its like the casing isn't even pulled out at all, everything seems smooth but just won't fire without jamming, it tries to cycle a new round into the chamber but it just runs into the back of the spent casing

CCI Mini-Mags (Round Nose)... never jam
CCI Mini-Mags (Hollow Point)... Jam maybe 1/50
Federal Bulk (Hollow Point)... Jam maybe 4/50
Winchester Bulk (Hollow Point)... jam 1/3 (DON'T BUY THESE)

I use CCI Mini-Mags Round Nose and can confirm these never jam in my SR-22. They cost a little bit more than your other bulk ammo but they're fantastic and .22 is cheap to buy anyway.

Everything runs great in my sr22
After replacing the extractor! The original extractor flew out of the bolt after aprox 100 rounds! Replaced with a power custom titanium extractor and spring an she gobbles it all up no problem
I would check to see if your extractor is even there!!

Experienced that kind of jam too with my SR-22 using BC mags, used the following ammo

CCI mini-mag HP 36gr - no jam
CCI LRN standard velocity - no jam
Federal Bulk HP CP HP - 1% jam
Blazer Bulk RN - 1% jam
Federal RN " champion" - 15% jam

I have no experience with the SR-22, but I believe it is the same action as the 10/22... If so, you will likely need to replace the extractor... The factory ones are soft cast steel, and tend to lose their edge very quickly. For $15 or so you can get a Volquartsen hardened tool steel extractor or the like and fix the problem once and for all...

Not sure if any sponsors sell such things... If not:

Are you having the same FTE's with the stock 10 round mag? If not, then it may not be your extractor. I found on my SR22 that the feed lips from the Butler Creek 25 round mags would sometimes rub against the bottom of the bolt and slow down the bolt so the spent casing would not always extract properly. You can test this by inserting your empty BC mag and manually cycling the bolt while gently pulling back on the lower corner of the mag. I fixed mine by polishing the two grooves in the bottom of the bolt - they were just a cast finish so a little rough. So now even if the feed lips do make contact, it doesn't slow down the bolt much. I have no FTE's now with all brands of ammo I have tried.

On the bulk Blazer 525 packs, I found them to have a heavy waxy coating. Much more than AE or the Blazer in 500 bricks. They cause jamming in the BC mags as the rounds sometimes get stuck below the feed lips, or are just very slow to feed up. I save this ammo for my Henry lever or clean them up a bit by wiping the excess wax off with a paper towel.

If I get two jams in a box of 525 federal bulk its a bad day. My SR loves that stuff.

Try the factory mag, first.

Make sure that the action is cycling smoothly, with no obvious hang-ups. Any screws sticking in through the action will cause drag. Usually the scope rail screws on the top of the action.
Cleaned and lubed?

Visually inspect your extractor, see if it has a clean hook on it's end, or if it is bent in, rounded, or otherwise damaged. Lots of pictures online. Compare!

Take a good look through the sticky thread on 10-22 tips and tricks. Consider the zip-tie mod. You can cheat and try essentially the same thing, by wedging some folded paper in the area to hold the mag steady, to see if it helps.

Try some different ammunition, starting with round nose, if you are shooting paper or other targets, rather than pests or game. Buy a box or two each of several kinds, and see which shoot best in YOUR gun. Don't buy bulk until you get that figured out, unless you have another gun to use them in.

If it's a brand new SR-22, it'll take a thousand rounds or so to break-in. Mine used to stove pipe rounds like crazy! I was pretty discouraged at first, but after two boxes of bulk federal 525 rounds, it smoothed out and haven't had any trouble with it since. Thats running with the factory 10-rounder and a BC steel lip 25 rounder.

I bought a three pack of archangel 25 rounders (the ones that look similar to AR mags) and have had nothing but trouble! One mag runs reliable most of the time. The second and third mag I had to shave down the top of the feed lip as it was contacting the bolt and the friction was short stroking the rifle. And the third mag will jam up if you put more than 7 rounds in it! Like it won't move another round up into the feed position, so it can't be stripped off the mag. I've tried everything with that one, mixed and matched springs, looked for molding flaws, smoothed things out as best I could and still uselss.

I run my SR-22 damp with aerosol gun oil. After I removed the mag stud pin and spring and restretched the spring to push the stud out harder things were better.

I just tried the factory with a quick 10 rounds and worked perfect. Ill try more later and have a close look at the BC mag. Maybe I can shave down one of the lips or something

Look up the Zip Tie mod then. It may solve much of the problem.

The newer 10-22 housings are supposedly a little wider than the older ones. If the mag can wiggle around, it can cause a bunch of misery.

Since the factory mag works well, that at least shows you how it 'should' work.

Read a bunch of the mods stuff that is available, then only do the stuff that might be of use.
