Ok "lately" is not accurate. The rise in popularity of Pistol Calibre Carbines has been going on for quite a while now.
Even I finally jumped in, picking up a Storm off the EE. I will rebarrell to NR, and likely use it to hunt small game or varmints, although I don't know why for the life of me. I have way better options for doing that sort of thing. .... What is everyone else doing with theirs? What's the allure? Have we all gone mad? Lol

Fun as heck to shoot and good ergonomics.

My favourite: PS90 5.7mm

The Cx4 storm with non restricted bull barrel. The CX4 storm would be perfect without the web for the stock and a straight rail without the hooded sights. Trying to get Fireball to modify one like he did with his SL8.

That would be really cool - like the SL8, they'd have sold more of them if they'd made them like that from the factory. As far as PCC's go, since most CQB type shooting is done under 50 yards, 556 isn't necessary, or affordable.

ive seen that mod done, and it looks wicked.... But I don't have the guts to try it on mine. I'd be willing to try it on yours though.

Meh...
Owned a Cx as well as a 9mm AR
'Gave up on the PCC thing after realizing they're both an over sized pistol and an under powered rifle all in one.

I don't entirely understand them to be honest. Nothing wrong with them, but I just don't see where the benefits are.

Price - I pay only 2 cents more for 223 then I do for 9mm, and 223 is cheaper then 40 or 45.

Mag capicity - You can get 10 rd mags for any STANAG compatible rifle, and 15 rds if you are one of the lucky ones.

Range - You limit any distance shooting you can ever do if you go with a PCC.

Restricted/Non Restricted - I guess this only applies if you are comparing to an AR, as the same barrel length rules apply to any other rifle.

9mm Jr or thuron is a non restricted 10 round package at a third of the price of a non restricted .223
900$ for a JR compared to 2500 for an xcr, 2600 for a tavor, 2500 for a famae sg540

Not many people can afford 2500$ on a non restricted 10 round semi automatic with all the fun tactical accessories that can be mounted on them.

Depends on what pistol cartridge you are talking about.

.454 Casull, 45 colt, 44 mag and .357 in levers are real, no BS, hunting cartridges at closer ranges.

I've got a JR carbine in .45 ACP and it's a neat gun just to have around. Shoots bug holes at 25 yards and 4" at 100 yards; 200 grain medium hard SWC at 1200+ fps aren't a joke either, if a fellow wanted to shoot a deer or black bear with it.

I think the 9mm's are mostly just fun guns, but nothing wrong with that either.

this is probably the only reason why I would get a PCC. bonus if it can share mags with my pistol.

Hahah ya thanks. I would get one off the EE as a test project first. Just in case.

A couple of reasons.

1) You can shoot some of them such as the CX4 storm on the pistol ranges. Restricted ones even indoors. Non restricted on the outdoor pistol ranges and anywhere legal to do so
2) 12-13 rounds. Use a 40 S&W Beretta 96 mag for your 9mm.
3) Non restricted gives you extra feet pers second
4) Those extra feet per second with 147 hollow points work well if you were thinking defence carbine
5) Ergonomics are very good. In the case of the Storm it has some bullpup advantages as well while being quick for mag changes and full ambi
6) As mentioned before cost of them vs the 223 rifles.
7) Light to no recoil and fun to shoot
8) Greater range and accuracy over a pistol (100 yard accurate) while not having the range of a rifle many shoot off hand for fun at 100 or less.

Plus lets keep in mind that the germans sure as hell didnt think a 9mm smg was a joke!

The Russians seemed to favour a SMG in their pistol caliber 7.62x25 as well. Both the German and Russian SMG proved very successful. Frankly it's been fairly recent that the MP5 in 9mm has been phased out for short AR carbines. I wish I could own a MP5!!

Hhaha, Epoxy you have joined the dark side .... ;)

9mm is fairly quiet too, especially in a longer barrel. and low recoil. for getting new shooters into "black" rifles.

Personally now that my JR is behaving, its really a fun rifle. I usually put 600 to 800 rounds through it at the range in one sitting before it gets really dirty and it starts misbehaving and I start cursing in french.
got my eotech 512 and g33 mag on it, fun to pop clay at 100 yards and 50 yards with ease.

9mm drops 12 inches at 100 yards though, need to guesstimate a bit with the eotech at the bottom of it's reticle.

I bought a TDC in 9mm for small game hunting and as a SHTF rifle for someone who's small in stature. A small woman or a child could easily use it. 10 seconds and a power tool and you can have it capable of throwing serious amounts of lead down range in a hurry.

I've also got a Rossi M92 in .454 Casull and wouldn't have any problem using it on anything up to, and including moose within 150ish yards.

Plus lets keep in mind that the germans sure as hell didnt think a 9mm smg was a joke!

I don't think there is one person on this board who would want to stand in front of a 9mm coming at them. That's for sure.
