*update*
was supposed to be delivered by end of day friday and showed up today.
just the pistol and no ammo but driver says other package will probably show tomorrow....
Cmon CFO need my reg card so i can take this baby out for a day in the sun...

I got a heavy package from canpar today. :) The 1911 appears to have an ok finish (for a norc) but unfortunately there was a dummy scratch on the frame already... I am a little disapointed that I wasn't the one to do it ( it was inevitable, as this is my first 1911). It took me over an hour to get the cosmo off to my liking, but all in all for what I paid... I can't complain!

I caved and ordered a second combo today. Start your timers!

Man, I am so itching to buy another. I ordered all of this before even getting my 1911:

So now it looks like this:

Instead of this:

But I started to like the classic 1911A1 Government look so I want to buy another and just leave it completely stock (except for the Norc Grips, might try to find some nice wood ones).

Get a cold blue kit and a hair dryer .. Maybe some 600 grit ( 30.00 cold blue ) ( 1.20 for 600 grit ) scratch will be gone .. Or just a Birchwood Casey touchup pen (18.00) .. Get the cold blue you will not be sorry for the future watch vid on you tube .. You will see how easy to remove that scratch ... And do a good job ..

I finally got mine out to the range the other day and I must say I was quite impressed. It was easy to shoot and very accurate. The DLASK mags were a nice addition and worth every penny.

I fed 200 rounds through it and as others have mentioned you can definitely see the lead going the whole way down range. I had one dud and saw one badly torn up piece of empty brass too, but you can't complain for the price!

Are there any of these left?

Exciting, Just ordered my first 1911! Looks like they still have some of the combo deal. Aside from the grips, any advice for immediate non cosmetic upgrades?

Dismantle it completely, get a very fine ceramic stone, and polish the back of the trigger where the sear/disconnector engage, polish any rough spots off the top and bottom edges of the trigger bow (be gentle - it should slide in there but not slop around) and polish lightly the sides of the trigger bow. If you have a small, fine "arkansas hard" stone that will fit in the slot for the trigger bow, give that a bit of a rub. Clean thoroughly. reassemble. For more, see if you can find Kuhnhausen's books on the 45 ACP.

Haha, I think most of us probably won't have an arkansas hard stone, let alone a patch of 120 grit sand paper, some S.O.S. pads and maybe some Scotchbrite, but thanks for the tip nonetheless. I'll try polishing the trigger bow as you said, but I don't have a clue how I'm going to getinto the trigger channel. I found this on another forum:

A buddy from another board guided me thru this and it worked out great. Just want to share.

1. Strip the frame completely

2. Polish the trigger bow with #400 + # 600 sandpaper until it`s slick as a mirror. ( I also used my Dremel with a felt tip and some jeweller`s rouge.)

3. Polish the trigger channel, sear, disconnector, hammer and pins. Do not mess around with the engagement angle of sear and hammer, as this might compromise the function.

4. Cut 2 coils off the mainspring, this will reduce the tension on the hammer and take some pull of the trigger. Do not cut more than 3 coils.

5. Bend the 3 prong leaf spring inwards, until it has a slight bow. This will reduce the pull on the sear and disconnect (1st and 2nd prong), the 3rd prong is for the grip safety (you might need to adjust this until it`s comfortable for you).

Note: If you don`t want to do this, you can keep the original spring and order a Cylinder&Slide pull reduction spring from Midwayusa (Item # 188 154 for mere $ 6.19)

You`ll notice that you won`t be able to install the bent spring with nothing but the mainspring housing removed, you gotta pull the thumb safety and the grip safety first, install the spring and re install the safeties.

This worked wonders on my SW1911 and reduced the trigger pull from 7lb to a sweet, crisp 2 1/2 lb pull with 1/16" pre travel and no over-travel at all (can be adjusted w. the small allen screw inside the trigger)

I`ve installed an STI trigger from Midway, but only because it looks cool ...basically this is a zero-budget trigger job.

Oh, yes...just to be on the safe side...if you test-fire your gun, load 2, then 3 rds at a time, just to be sure it won`t double-fire.

I took my Norc to the range last night and shot it for the first time:

http://3.bp.########.com/-nsIkMy1VVKM/Ue-KDi6eklI/AAAAAAAARuo/Ld-OBe-RUWc/s1600/IMAG3371.jpg

I'm a crap shot to begin with, and it really shows from my target sheets (about 10 meters away). The right target was the first 7 rounds out of my Norc, the left target looks marginally better I suppose. It didn't take long to get used to the Norc and my groupings got better througout the evening, but I didn't take any pictures (yes, I know, no pics -no proof of better groupings). I just wanted to enjoy the rest of the night and play with my new toy :)

The only issue I had performance-wise was the magazines. They are crap. One fed okay, but the other one misfed every time I loaded up with 7 rounds. The one magaize was happy with 6 rounds, but would consistently ftf with 7 rounds:

Overall though, I'm really happy with my Norc, and I'm glad finally caved and jumped on the deal. The pistol itself came in excellent fit and finish, even the ugly grips weren't broken, just the mags. I was thinking about contacting Canada Ammo about it, but then again, I only paid $499 for a 1911 pistol and 1,000 rounds of ammo. The gun functions flawlessly with my Wilson Combat mags, so I'll just buy a few more of those, or maybe a set of Kimber ones, anyone try those before?

Anyway, I like it so much, I'm considering getting another one, just to leave it stock and shoot as is. I'll use my current one to practice my backyard gunsmithing, haha!

Finally got to the range and tried out, among other guns, the 1911 norc, fantasti,c not one problem, we only shot just under 100 rounds but everything worked great, from 12 yards I got all within the 10 inch rig and evenly spread around, for my first time shooting a 1911 and not much time on any handgun I think it is great, I will improve a bit but these 58 year old eyes ain't what they used to be! ;0) Glad I got a second one and will get a third if they are still there in September!! What a blast!

So did all those parts require fitting or did they just slip right on?

I personally would like my Norc to sport a beavertail grip safety and the skeleton hammer

The only thing that slipped right in was the MSH and maybe the hammer, hammer strut and hammer strug pin assembly (though you will need the beavertail grip safety to accomodate the larger hammer), though I think the SA unit I replaced the factory Norc one adds more tension to the main spring. The Wilson Combat match trigger needed some sanding (at least, that's how I made it fit), but seems to work well with the other parts. I also bought a S&W sear and disconnector because I thought I'd need it with the S&W hammer, but I couldn't make it work so I ended up trying the Norinco sear and disconnecter and it was able to work. I don't really understand the internal workings on how each part intigrates with each other, but that particular combo worked in my gun. Also, the Wilson Combat "semi-drop in" beaver tail grip safety needed a lot of massaging. In fact, it was an absolute pain in the #### for anyone with ZERO gunsmithing skills and experience (me). I ended up filing the $hit out of it, scuffed up the finish a bit, but in the end made it fit and function.

But the whole thing was a learning experience for me and at the end, I'm glad to have tried it instead of leaning on my friends (who are semi to professional smiths). I'm happy with the results, but plan to revist a lot of the internals once I find the minerals to try it.

A reply to MisterDonut. My Kimber mags are tight in both my Norc 1911's My older one and my combo gun. All 6 of my Norc mags work well in both my Norc guns????? At first some of those were tight but everything did loosen and worked.

well mine finally came back from the shop:cool::D very happy got it nickel platted and did the blueing myself on some of the parts;)
