Muzzle Break for AR-15

Hey CGN,

I've been having difficulty getting back on target quickly for follow up shots, maybe I'm just bad at recoil control but I was thinking about buying an aftermarket muzzle break/device to make my times a bit faster. I shoot a DDM4V5, 16" barrel, what would you guys recommend?

Lots of choices out there. Take a look at the Ares Armor EFFIN-A Tunable Compensator. Hard to find but ARMTAC carries them. Have them on 2 different AR's with 14.5" barrels. ARES also has a new model available, EFFIN-A Compensator 5.56 MKII but not sure if you can get it in Canada. Good luck
 
Yankee Hill makes some good brakes. I have one on my AR and it is very effective, totally kills any perceived muzzle rise and great fo quick follow up shots.

Makes the rifle crazy loud, though. :) bit of a flame-thrower too!

I bought a Phantom 5C2, based on the reviews i read it was comparable too the fsc556 (for muzzle rise at least), but 1/4 of the price.

Can't wait till I can use it :)

Note that there is a big difference between a muzzle brake (not break) and a compensator. A brake reduces both kick and muzzle flip, while a compensator only reduces muzzle flip and does very little for kick. I have a bunch of compensators: PWS FSC556, PWS TTO, Battlecomp 1.0, Griffin M4-SD Compensaror and Griffin M4-SD Flash Comp. While these are an improvement over the A2, they do very little compared to my SJC Titan brake, or the Dlask A6, JP Cooley, Surefire MB-556 or Miculek brakes my friends have. Brakes and compensators are two different animals...

The JP seems smoother somehow. The MB556K is a straight back impulse and just seems abrupt. Happy with it however.

Yeah this is kind of what I was getting into with "brake/device", seems like I need to prevent flip and recoil.

Right now im split between the Effin A and a surefire
 
Don't rule out the excellent ATRS Lightweight Flash Eliminator. I have moved to this on most of my AR's both in 5.56mm and 300 Blackout. Very light and compact, eliminates flash and fully compensates... and Canadian made.

The Effin A is only a compensator. What it does is allow you to tune it so that it doesn't over-compensate and push the muzzle down or push to one side. It will not reduce the rearward impulse like the SF brake will.

You have to try them side-by-side to really get a feel for the difference. It really changes your perception of the felt recoil. I have three uppers. I put an A2 on one, the FSC556 on another and my Titan brake on the third one. Firing the FSC556 after the A2 felt like a huge improvement. But after firing the upper with the brake, the FSC556 felt like it was barely doing anything over the A2, compare to the brake.
