Today I shot some M4 type ARs at 300 yrds.

I shot a NEA 14.5", a NEA 10.5" and a modified Norinco 14.5". (The Norc has a float tube).

The NEA 14.5 has a Burris scope and the reticle did not suit my aiming mark, so I could not get any kind of group. In fact, the 4X scopes were a limiting factor. I think 20X target scopes would have done better.

All rifles had Rock River triggers. Love them.

The ammo was handloads with Hornady 55 gr. FMJ over 24.5 gr 4895. These were not proven loads. They had never been shot before. I chose this load because it looked like a decent 300 yd load.

The NEA and Norinco shot very similar groups - just under 2 MOA. Considering these were not match bullets, I was very pleased and impressed.

very nice, I had my norc 14.5" out today aswell, never shot it beyond 100y till today, someone had left some clays on the berm at 200y and had to give it a go, also drilled the 6" gong a couple times, (4x optic aswell)
thanks for sharing pics of the groups, got pics of the guns by chance? also what were you using as a rest?

The purpose the range trip was so my son could test some ammo in his 308 target rifle, which had a recent chamber modification. He was shooting his Target Rifle off his elbows, with iron sights.

2 MOA from a short AR is plenty good in my book.

Now, ~1/2 MOA off the elbows at 300 with irons? That's something. Can I assume that's a peep and globe?

Wow, very nice shooting both of you! I often wonder why more people don't stretch out on a casual range day. I'm usually all alone at even 200 yds. How else will you know what your equipment does out there?

It's all a blur to me at 200 yards, even with my elcan on 4x

Even better, ELCAN Spector DR 1-4x @ 500m with the BDC 62gr is pretty much dead on for elevation with a 16" carbine.

I actually prefer the 0S3x B model. 0.5 MOA adjustment turrents, high optical quality, illuminted reticle, 1/3rd the price of the DR line. I'm not a fan of BDC reticles personally, I'm mor comfortable dialing adjustments for elevation and windage. YMMV.

Works great for me at least. Obviously the DR has benifits, 1X makes it more versitile in certain scenarios. I have shot the OS3x as close as 10yds. Field of view is limited but was able to fully resolve my POA on the target for centred hits,
