.46 rimfire question?

Well, I, for one, would really like to know where you intend to find the ammunition.

I have been trying to find ONE round for some time now, to no avail.

If this is an original REMINGTON conversion to .46RF, you might be able to modify available large-calibre revolver brass (.45 Colt is a distinct possibility) to handle an OFFSET .22RF casing to be used as a Primer.

I have here an original Conversion, but mine was to the 44/100 balloon-head casing which was the prototype for the .44 S&W which now is called the "American". Mine was converted about 1868. TWOSTEAM has posted photos of it on this forum.

Sorry, but I have no data on "Remis", nor on "Savvis", Tikkies" or "Winnies".

Hope this is some help, friend.

Posting some good close-up photos of what you actually have would be a great help.

These things are awfully scarce these days and must be treated as the Treasures which they are.

I have one of only 300 Remintons that the US govt sent to Remington ( several companies used different methods to convert) for cartridge conversion after the civil war and paid the patent licence fee to S&W. The cylinder has the Rollin White patent # on it. If yours doesnt have the patent # it will have been converted by someone other than Remington. The ones not done by reminton may be a # of other calibers than .46 rimfire, precise measurements should be taken.

The one I have will chamber a .44 sp brass perfectly in the chamber (chamber is straight cut thru), the rim of the .44 is considerably smaller than the recess in the cylinder but would work. The bore slugs at .454 so a "heeled" bullet will be proper to use, a .45auto bullet fits tru the chambers.

I will have to make a new centre fire hammer & recoil plate for mine before it could be fired. The original frame mill slot for the percussion hammer will allow room for a C/F hammer i think.

Although she shows hard usage as you would expect from a tool of 5 yr at war, she still works like the day it was issued to some Union soldier during the civil war. I sure wish this old girl could talk and tell her story...civil war...maybe an old-west encounter or two in the U.S....imported into Alberta in 1888...

Mine seems to have come here in 1876.

I would REALLY lik to see photos of yours.

Mine is already posted in a couple of places, including here.

Janice is here for a couple of days; in the summer she spends a lot of time working on her huge house in Two Creeks. So we are in luck. Her computer knows how to do the "post picture" thing, mine does not, so she will follow on in a few minutes.

It is one of the Emissaries of Lady Bast.

You have to be nice to pussycats or else she won't send one to help you.

I am, in fact, almost ferociously ugly, which is why there are so few pictures of me.

Janice likes to sit around and play with her Doofus a lot. I'll post a picture if I can get this machine to work.

MORE early Remington photos coming up shortly. The OP is sending some here but has granted permission to post. HIS computer is no smarter than mine, it seems!

Handloader magazine ran an article on a guy that makes odd ball cases like the Thuer and RF cases that utilize an off centre .22 case for ignition.

.46 rimfire question?
anyone here able to give me some advise on shooting .46 rim fire? Got a remi 1858 conversion for rim fire. I think it is .46.

this is what I am hoping to find. I did see a site that offers several types up to 41rf but not 46. would still need to verify the caliber anyway. 45colt,45acp and 44magnum do not fit in the cylinder.
