I owned an indian made one pre prohib. I paid 200 for it. I miss it. sorry to hear about your father.
The emotional connection is easy to understand. I grew up occasionally shooting the South African made FAL clones (R1/R2/R3) and I would love to own one. I just got an auction catalogue this morning from SA with FAL's and R1's going for as little as $800.... Its the only modern battle rifle that I am really interested in.
My Dad used one in the late 80's and last fired one in the service in 1991, he thinks. He's in the Air Force and they were slower to get C7's. He really enjoyed the rifle and said they still worked great and were accurate enough despite them getting pretty damn old and worn by the time they were finally replaced.
It's the rifle that made me interested in guns, and finding out it was prohibited and why is what made me absolutely despise the Liberal Party of Canada. I'd trade nearly every gun I own if it meant FAL's became non-restricted, as they should be.

When I was issued mine we called them FN C1's, in the combat arms anyway.
It was one of the rifles I used in the Signals and was hoping to get until I found out they are prohibited.
Had a lot of fun times shooting them even after one blew up next to me on the range.
Lucky for me my CO was between me and the other signalman when he had a breach explosion while trying to clear a jam.
Luckily for the CO 99% of the shrapnel was caught in the range safety manual he had in his front chest pocket.
After a couple of hours is hospital he was back with us in the bar celebrating his close escape.
Had a lot of fun times shooting them even after one blew up next to me on the range.

The Shooting Edge in Calgary does have an FAL range gun, if anyone's up that way in Alberta

Actually there was a small quantity that were issued full auto in Canada, and those were issued to the Navy for boarding parties, they were designated C1D and C1A1D.

Is there any way we could get a gun off the ban list through petition?
That pic brought back memories, the one I was issued (reserve) was older than the one I owned at the time, and in worse shape - I remember thinking that something wasn't right about that, and, as soon as fired my first volley of 'trudeau rounds' in training, I knew something was wrong.
I shot one many times while shooting DCRA years ago. We used them for practicing military matches. Never participated in a military match but the excuse to use one was good enough for me. Loved the gun, is the one gun I wish I could own legally.

I have an fn fal 308 match, Belgian manufacture that was manufactured as semi auto only. 12.5 prohibited status. makes me wanna cry sometimes, at least i did get to shoot it when I could, probably got a few hundred rounds downrange before the bureaucrats got a bad case of gun diarrhea. very nicely balanced, smooth shooting rifle. as a matter of fact I have had very few other guns that felt as naturally pointable and comfy as that fn fal. thought about selling it once when I had a bad case of the flu, once the flu wore off I realized just how much that fever had affected my brain.
We can try. Everyone else on this forum will just laugh at the idea but hey, its better then doing nothing.
