I have a 9mm 4.25" mp pro core on order from fishing world, but I'm interested in adding a red dot on it when it arrives, since that's basically the main point for buying these lol. But I also have a budget since I've spent quite a bit on firearms and related products lately. It seems that most of the compatible red dots are $450+, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend some cheaper options.

I read the fastfire is compatible but you can't cowitness, is that true? Because that would be more in my budget for a red dot for my pistol.

k thanks, I messaged that guy to ask him what he thought of that setup, if anyone else is using another red dot like a Burris please provide your feedback :)

Yeah, at our shop, the guy had a fastfire rigged to to Core. However, the fastfire was one of the $450 options. The fastfire kit they have was somewhere up there anyway.

Perhaps there is a cheaper kit, cause this Fastfire kit came with an arsenal of extra hardware so it could be mounted to just about any common pistol by replacing the rear sight with a mount. Hell, if I recall correctly, it was even compatible with my Norc 1911. Kind of a tease, that gun shoots nice but the sights are messed.

Edit: Damn, no, I got it all wrong. It was a Leupold Deltapoint they had at my shop. My bad.

The main issue with this (as a CORE owner) is that the G load on the handgun slide is NASTY, and it loads on multiple axis.

ANY Red Dot is going to die on the gun -- the difference will be the number of rounds.

Right now there are three reasonable options - Trijicon RMR, Aimpoint T1 and the Leupold DeltaPoint. Additionally those companies are good with warrantee stuff when you break the sight.

IMO the Deltapoint is a great option. They are far more easy to get your hands on up here than the RMR. The size is great, small with a large viewing window. As a bonus they are cheaper than the RMR and the warranty is good.
Also keep in mind you don't need all the mounts. The DP had two versions. One with a bunch of dovetails and one just with a weaver/pic mount. Since you will be throwing the mounts away get the cheaper one that just had the one mount.

im in the same boat.
i actually HAVE my 5" CORE and im looking around to pick up a red dot for it.
ive been holding back because they are so expensive.
but i think im gonna have to bite the bullet (figure of speech!) and go into the Lue Deltapoint or Trijicon.
i was going to try to get away with a cheaper one like a C-More but being able to co-witness the irons through the red dot is important to me and from what im hearing a lot of the red dots you can get WILL NOT allow you to co-witness.
but the Deltapoint for sure will and so will the Trijicon.

now, that said S&W seems to be throwing their weight behind the Deltapoint as its in all of thier adds and their team runs it.
and the Trijican from what i hear do die, im not sure if faster then the Deltapoint but i have heard of people chewing through them pretty fast.

i think at the end of the day im gonna try to get into a Deltapoint and see how it goes.
though im not seeing a lot of them on the market right now.... and Trijicons are in stock at a few places.

coin toss.....

I am running my 5" core with optics.....I really like the tall sights but the delta is on my list

Well, someone running a fastfire sent me a pic and said he was able to cowitness with the sights. So, they are about $300 which is what I'd want to spend on a red dot for a pistol. I think I'm leaning towards the fastfire 3, and maybe the 8moa version.

i wouldnt mind seeing a pic of a fastfire 3 on one.
from what i hear they dont mount on there.

i have searched the net and have yet to find any pics of them on there either.

EXACTLY. The stresses that a reciprocating slide place on a red dot are far far harder on them than if they are static mounted on a rifle's rail.

WHEN (not if) the red dot dies, do you want a free replacement? Or do you want to buy another?

Interesting........why didn't my Glock open gun, 9mm Major, kill my STS??

Why don't the open guns I see with slide ride sights kill their Docteur? and STS sights?

I had discussed this issue above - but I figured some pictures may also help.

Mine zeroed with the dot aligned with the sights - but for photo's I found it easier to aim a little off with the camera.

Unlike IPSC/USPSA Open class typical guns that use a frame mounted optic - any optic on the slide as in this case eats the full G load of firing and the slide coming in and out of battery. Its tough on the optic - and you will see a quick death with cheaper optics.
Do yourself a favor and buy a decent optic with a lifetime warranty.
It is a decently expensive gun as is (not sure of retail, but the hook a brother up pricing I got was still noticeably more than a normal M&P...) don't then cheap out on the optic

Hey Kevin. so do you set up your dot just above/touching the front white dot?(6 o'clock hold position) I realize the pic is not lined up. also what size is your moa dot?

I just bought a .40 S&W and dont usually shoot more than 30 yards. which moa do you recommend?

I see One Shot has the docter unit in stock, any thoughts or just go with the leupold. thanks for the input
