FML...

:(

I was just at the Cabelas in Dundee, Michigan. They had the .22LR copy by GSG in stock...what a nice looking piece of kit; and at a reasonable price to boot. But alas, we are in Kanadistan where if the law was applied to cars in the way they applied to guns, you would not be able to own an '85 Fiero because somebody thinks it looks like a Ferrari (thanks to Solomon Friedman for that great analogy).

Question;

The MP5 Carbine (and variants) is listed as prohib under the rifles and carbines list of named prohibs.

....it however is not listed under the pistols section.

With this new announcement, have they not just announced a pistol version of the MP5?

Since only the Carbine/Rifle version is a named prohib, and not the pistol, does this leave any room for leverage?

Or is the pistol of an MP5 considered prohib automatically as a "variant" of the rifle/carbine named prohib?

The Skorpion pops to mind as a similar case, but I realize "one came before the other" in the case of the Skorpion.

Note: I know Germany is classifying two new MP5 versions as pistols, do our laws see them as rifles/carbines still and not as pistols the way Germany (where they are manufactured) does?

....I love how complicated our laws makes this conversion.

I appreciate everyones feedback and fully acknowledge i'm just spitting at the wall, I in no way assume we will ever see one of these....

MP5 "pistol" would also be prohibited.

As an example, just think of the AK-47. There are no pistol variants. Because that would also be prohibited.

I wonder what the cost of getting a business license in Canada is with prohib status
Not that much, but you need to be legit or you won't get the license (or they'll pull it if you manage to con them initially). And don't forget that prohib firearms in a business ledger belong to the business, not you.

MP5 is prohibited because the design, even in semi auto is easily made full auto by removing one part...its done for a reason in this case, not just because it's a fun gun to shoot.

There isn't a single gun that is prohib for a reason, I'm sorry, that's flat out BS. Even 12.2's are only prohibited because mommy and daddy government have decided that the kids can't play with them. They aren't banned because they've ever been proven dangerous. Not one registered machine gun has ever been used in a crime in Canada. Additionally, a trigger pack is more than one part and an FA trigger pack is positively required to turn an MP5 Carbine into an MP5 smg.

Complete and utter BS, regurgitated by someone who obviously has never handled one.

I agree, your two cents ain't worth squat in this argument. The MP5 is prohibited by NAME and name alone. It was deemed far too scary for the "populace" to own. That is the only reason it is prohibited.
