I finally got around to screwing the last of my USGI parts stash on to one of the first Chinese M14/s rifles that I bought many years ago. This one is an early Polytech M14/s (check out the serial #!).
I went to Tom's (M14 Dr...thanks Thomas!) last clinic in June and used the barrel vice to take the Polytech barrel off and install a virgin TRW barrel/gas system/flash hider.
When I got home I lapped in a virgin TRW bolt and head-spaced it at 1.632"....002" over .308 match.
Rather than use the TRW op-rod and trigger I had saved for this build, I used the Polytech pieces...the trigger has been worked and is much nicer than the GI one, and the op-rod simply fits right and works perfectly.
USGI sights and stock of course...
The rifle is nothing fancy, but I like the simple "as issued" look and feel. She rings like a bell and shoots Norinco ball ammo ridiculously well. I might throw a scope on and try some hand loads just to see what she can really do...or just enjoy as is.
