My "last" USGI/Chinese build...(lots of pics)

I finally got around to screwing the last of my USGI parts stash on to one of the first Chinese M14/s rifles that I bought many years ago. This one is an early Polytech M14/s (check out the serial #!).
I went to Tom's (M14 Dr...thanks Thomas!) last clinic in June and used the barrel vice to take the Polytech barrel off and install a virgin TRW barrel/gas system/flash hider.
When I got home I lapped in a virgin TRW bolt and head-spaced it at 1.632"....002" over .308 match.
Rather than use the TRW op-rod and trigger I had saved for this build, I used the Polytech pieces...the trigger has been worked and is much nicer than the GI one, and the op-rod simply fits right and works perfectly.
USGI sights and stock of course...
The rifle is nothing fancy, but I like the simple "as issued" look and feel. She rings like a bell and shoots Norinco ball ammo ridiculously well. I might throw a scope on and try some hand loads just to see what she can really do...or just enjoy as is.
Here are the pics...

She's a beauty Greg
Was more than glad to make the tools availlable as well ;)
All that TRW goodness makes me drool hehehe

Nice looking gun! (You just need the dummy selector on there & at a quick glance it would pass as the real deal!)

I like it!!!

Cheers

I am impressed with your rifle Sir. Thk

It looks very business like and I'm sure can live up to it's looks. Now I wish I had picked up one of those nice GI barrels and bolts a few years back when they seemed more plentiful and more reasonably priced after I've shot out my Nork barrel with 50,000 rounds or so...........cou:

Very nice, I also love the original/clean look. Just finally got around to finishing my M21ish build and stuck with the same school of thought.

Nice rifle and good job. I'm with you on the original look. I also have two usgi glass stocks and like the original finish as issued. I think too many people try to gloss them up into something they were never made to look like. But to each their own.

Would love to see a photo of the left receiver sidewall. I once saw a very early imported gun that had the Norinco "Star Wars" logo engraved beside the scope base.

Well, it's a Poly Tech, so there is no Norinco "startrek" logo on the left side...the only marks on it are what's stamped on the heel (see pics)

Outstanding!

My three remaining M14s are all built on classic heel stamped Poly Tech receivers.
One has a 3 digit serial #, the others are below 2K, and one is set up similar to your build.

Update...
Very happy with this build...she rings the 12"x12" gong at 485 yards with iron sights and surplus ammo all day long if I do my part...she's a keeper!
Thanks to those who commented that they liked this build...it's nice when it all comes together the way you'd hoped.
