My Little Pony 1911 Grips

Sweet mother of mercy.....what's the world coming to? I support any ex serviceman organization...this is not my issue. I've got a real problem with people bastardizing firearms. I was brought up to respect firearms and treat them with care. This whole movement of painting, and altering a firearm to attract attention to oneself is ridiculous.....not only is the value destroyed, it shows a lack of respect for the sport. The only thing I want to see on a firearm is holster wear....not skulls, flames and pink ponies. It's like seeing a Police officer or Soldier with lip nose and eyebrow piercing's.....it shows disrespect in my opinion. Call me unreasonable or say I'm talking out my arse....that's just how I feel about things.

I have custom wood grips on multiple guns.

I'll buy you the coffee tough guy. Actually there should be a range day with everyone on this board with a single piece of customization on any of their firearms, a grip or a stock. And they can bring you a pot of coffee. Let's see if you stack up to your internet hero talk.

Or is your opinion only for your own special personal version of what is acceptable?

What is it with you retards?.....personalizing your guns with all this stupid garbage....are you men or friggin children?.....pimp this....murder out that....grow the hell up!....you park your stupid looking wannabe 1911 next to me @ the range and I'll dump my coffee on it.....ya wanna attract attention to yourself....that should do it.

Grips look good, are you able to rotate the photo in your photo program? If it could be printed at the appropriate angle it might be long enough to avoid the cut lines. Let us know how they hold up at the range!

This is why the firearms sport has a bad reputation with the media.....it's because of boneheads like you who go out of their way to make their guns look like toys.....these are not toys and shouldn't look like toys. I've got absolutely no problem with modification to suit the shooters personal preference, but when your gun looks like it could be purchased at Toys-R-Us....things have gone too far......"tough guy"...

Actually your the type of close minded, self-riteous bonehead that thinks your own personal idea of what is right is superior to everyone elses and that is a major factor in what divides us. You're nothing more than a fud, someone who is living in your self created world of superiority, and if anyone else's tastes do not match yours, they somehow become "What is wrong with the gun world." Give me a break and get off your high horse, what you like does not dictate how the world turns.

My guns look like toys because I mentioned I have custom wood grips? Do you even know what my guns are or look like or are you, yet again, just spewing bs on the internet like a tough guy with no real information? So by claiming I have wooden grips on a few pistols, you think I am what is wrong with the gun world?

You need to sit down and re-evaluate yourself if you think threatening people on the internet over your self-perceived notions of what is right is going to save the shooting sports, because really your just dragging it down with your head in the sand.

Furthermore, I was not referring to custom wood grips or anything we all install to enhance the look and performance of our firearms....I drink the cool-aid too in that regard. But I'm totally against making a gun look attractive to children as a toy. My kids shoot and have their designated firearm....but they look like firearms and not something that came out of a toy store blister pack

I find it odd as well.

But I will not and hopefully never will openly criticize anyone's personal freedom of choice so long as it does not negatively affect me nor society in any way.

That's why I have politely refrained from posting in here up until now, if I don't like it and it is none of my business, why should I even bother to blab about it?

To each their own.

Let me remind you...this is a "My Little Pony" thread.....not custom wooden grip thread. You're going off on a tangent that really has nothing to do with the subject. I'm sure your have some great looking firearms....and I didn't threaten anyone on this forum, but I firmly believe guns should not look like a child's toy. That's the final word for me. I appologise for calling you names....but you came @ me from the wrong angle on this subject

Well Newfoundlandrover, I'm sorry you are so offended by my 1911, but I am not sorry for having customized it the way I have.

There's already so much going against getting kids involved in shooting, what more is needed to drive the stake into the heart of shooting sports by basically driving away the next generation of shooters.

Personally, I treat EVERY firearms with respect, regardless of what it looks like, and I teach others to do the same (especially kids).

To me, it really doesn't matter how things - it's what's on the inside that counts.

Also, I didn't make My Little Fluttershy 1911 to attract attention to myself.

I did it because I like guns, I like MLP, and I think it's important to express yourself to those willing to hear you out (as far as I know, I don't believe I forced you or anyone else to read anything I've written, and I don't believe I've written anything derogatory, assaulting, or deceitful on this subject).

All that aside - I didn't even know before this thread that clear, acrylic, 1911 grips even existed, nor that there was a cool backstory and history to them - and THAT is cool.

Evidently they were called "Sweetheart grips"

I found this little blurb on a Smith and Wesson forum:

smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-hand-ejectors-1896-1961/245562-victory-model-wwii-sweetheart-grips.html

Commonly referred to as "sweetheart" grips, lore has it these were hand-crafted during WWII from aircraft canopies and GIs would place photos of loved ones, pin up girls, etc. behind the plastic to customize their pistols. Usually made for 1911s, sometimes you'll see them on other period pistols as well (see the set I have for a Beretta below).

Harbl, don't get me wrong, I'm not judging, but can you help me understand the fascination? Is it the cartoon, or the reaction you get from others? You can't honestly have me to believe that "Fluttershy" is your pin up/ loved one?

If you do a CGN search for any of the terms related to these grips, you'll find a thread in the lounge that will absolutely quench any thirst you have for information on this topic. I read it all after reading a couple of the posts in this thread. I found it pretty depressing.

It reminded me of how one - well, me, specifically - can believe in someone else's inalienable right to do something absolutely nauseating and repulsive, and simultaneously feel no reluctance to point out the degree to which that act engenders total revulsion in the defender. Not to mention an overwhelming sense of dread and foreboding at the prospects for masculinity as a virtue.

errrr, 'K. 10-4 Misanthropist,Gander. I think I'll leave well enough alone, for fear of gaining a full and complete understanding of "unlawful carnal knowledge".
