Strain the piss out of your Corn Flakes a$$hat. God forbid you've ever had to ask a question in your life.

Op, there's a .275 max for hunting in souther Ontario, but that's it. No max for the rest of Ontario.
Is it in the regs? Yes. Every hunter should have INTIMATE AND FULL KNOWLEDGE of the regs you are hunting under. They should be memorized. Answering that question releases the ind of the responsibility of finding it himself and contributes to the instant gratification expected of the entitlement generation. I was taught to do my best to find an answer before anyone gave me one I didn't earn. Wasn't this covered in his Ontario Hunter Education Course?
What other regs will he ignore because no one told him...? How about sunrise/sunset...? How about legal age / ### of animals...? Time to find out for himself. I have NEVER hunted in ON yet had that info in 20 minutes. Will you be there to tell him how to shoot? How to track? How to gut? Maybe how to butcher...?
hell, maybe I am just pi$$ed that I spend all day teaching a bunch of candy-a$$es who want all of the stuff spoon-fed to them instead of opening a damn book! Doesn't matter, individuals are responsible for themselves, make it that way. When a guy comes here with, "I have looked all over my hunting course handbook and the hunting regs and I cannot seem to find anything restricting rifle calibres in northern ON. Are there any?". At least this indicates he ATTEMPTED to find this out and knew restrictions existed in Southern ON.

In my area summaries were so limited this year I didn't get one. It is also early for moose season and he's asking a simple question whether or not certain calibers can be legally used before he goes and buys one. No need to jump on the guy. He may or may not even hunt this year. To the op. I u r not familiar with those calibers I suggest practice a lot if you r new to shooting bigger bores

Well i must say I'm on a few forums on a reg basis one being a performance boating site as I have 2 offshore boats and the other being a custom motorcycle site as I have a custom chopper and have a large knowledge in these areas and I would never reply to a person with less knowledge this way.

I guess I have been introduced on my first day to one of the ass holes here on this site.
Your reply indicates your a teacher and man you should find another job.

These forums are for people to ask question and for others to help in anyway as we all have more knowledge than others but all in different ways.

Stop talking down to people as if you were there father. I'm glad you are knowledgable in this subject but I hope you never start a new interest in your life and ask any questions. He'll is that not what these sites are for.

Im not a new hunter but simply was sitting with my family tonight looking threw these forums for the first time and asked a question knowing the answer but posted the above as there is always someone with more knowledge that can add info or confirm what your needed to know

I look forward to being a part of this site and leaning from others as well as sharing what I know
It is not ignorant to ask questions bit it is if you don't and sir you are ignorant.
Please do not reply to the above or any other posts or comments I may have as I do not care what your thoughts are.
Regards

Don't worry about it. Here in the la belle province they don't even have hunting regs anymore. You have to go online to find them. For me that is a long haul with dial up to find anything.
Now why they would have a restriction on calibers period is beyond me.You can have a 275 super duper magnum but not a 30-30 for deer go figure.

"Is it in the regs? Yes. Every hunter should have INTIMATE AND FULL KNOWLEDGE of the regs you are hunting under"

Show me in the regulation book that it says you can or cannot hunt with a 458 Lott. Go ahead show me. No I'm not going to look it up myself because I know the answer, and I also know that there is no mention of the 458 Lott in the regulations (or any caliber he mentioned). So I think he actually asked a valid question.

Contraire mon frère...The OP admitted that he already knew the answer, but asked the question anyway. "Im not a new hunter but simply was sitting with my family tonight looking threw these forums for the first time and asked a question knowing the answer but posted the above as there is always someone with more knowledge that can add info or confirm what your needed to know".

Seeing as he is familiar with other forums, he knows that silly questions, especially stuff that is readily available with a 20 second google search, will result in somebody calling him an idiot. He knew this would happen, and he has gotten the exact reaction he wanted. He was trolling, and hooked into a couple of lunkers.

Big Bear Down, Please go ahead & ask all the questions you want! There are a lot of great, experienced hunters who will be more that happy to help answer any question you may have. Just ignore the rude people on this site, as there are a number of them!

The caliber restriction that people talk about in Southern Ontario applies to hunting small game. Here is the text from the hunting regs.

A person hunting small game may not carry or use a rifle of greater calibre than a .275-calibre rifle, except a muzzle-loading gun, in the geograhic areas of Brant, Chatham-Kent, Durham, Elgin, Essex, Haldimand, Halton, Hamilton, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, Niagara, Norfolk, Northumberland, Oxford, Peel, Perth, Toronto, Waterloo, Wellington or York.

Exactly. If anything there should be a restriction on certain listed cartridges.

Thought the restriction had something to do with safety or maybe it does? Seems odd to only have the restriction for certain areas

I use a .375 H&H to hunt right now in Northern Ontario for Moose and have never had a problem. I'm not sure if there is a maximum but I know there is a minimum but I JUST LOOKED IN THE REGS and could not find anything. If I'm not mistaken it's somewhere in the neighborhood of .270 being the minimum allowable calibre.

You can use any centerfire rifle cartridge to hunt big game in Ontario. That even includes a 22 Hornet for Moose if you choose.

Welcome to the site! Yup is the easy answer which some others have already stated, but same as another poster stated as well Southern Ontario is under a caliber restriction of below .275 (not really an issue where I live as there is no rifle season for big game other than muzzle loader). Don`t even think twice about the trolls on any site.. skip over there comments and don`t give them the enjoyment of knowing they pissed someone off as they sit in there basement not actually doing anything on the topics they so rudely comment on. I`ve been on this site for years and every once in a while come across comments like that but refuse to reply or comment on them as a norm... Giver hell with those big bores up north...

Cool. Show me in the regs where it says that you can or cannot hunt with a . 50 Sharps, or a .700 Tyrannasaur, or a slingshot, or an atlatl, or an axe, or a broad-bladed spear, or a katana, or a set of nunchuks, or maybe even a handful of shuriken, or even a Swiss army knife? Go ahead, show me.
