Bubba"s backyard bbq parkerizing

I'm reading up on home parkerizing, be interested in seeing the 2009 sticky on parking, but can not see it in this forum. has it been moved or un-stickied?
 
For those who don't have a blasting cabinet you can submerse the parts in muriatic acid or evaporust. It will remove the old finish and any rust but leave the base metal. Naval Jelly works good too.

I'll be honest, I still haven't tried my Radocy. I have a Win 94 that I want to rebarrel and park, need to order a tank from CanAm.
 
to be honest i tried some evaporust on some of these clips.the rust went away.
i then cleaned them with brake cleaner and dumped them in the park.
results were less than satisfactory.blotchy park,rough texture.the best way is glass blast then parkerize.
 
Home brew parkerising is still fiddly. I have done quite a lot and even when you do everything right you still often get less than ideal results. I have been going to try the manganese solution one of the sponsors sells, but haven't had a big enough project to warrant the price of the product combined with shipping (and I still have ingredients for home brew left). Fortunately most of my parkerising gets Teflon coated too, so a perfect finish isn't necessary

Big thank you to everyone who posted information in this thread, I want to try this with my Norincoi 1911 which is blued. Unfortunately I don't have access to a blasting cabinet or sandblasting equipment, will the above take off bluing?

I want a nice dark black finish so I'll try the home brew recipe.

Leg: I'm up in Petawawa area doing a Sniper Clinic on 07-08 Sep. I can lend ya my 48" Stainless tank. Normally I rest it on top of my Coleman Dbl burner stove (you know the one we hauled around in the toboggans for years?) and life is great for doing barrels , barreled receivers and all that long stuff.

Trust me, you will be glad you did the project. You will even feel like a rock star after the Park'er job. :D

And in Paul's website, my testimony from many years ago can still be found there! It's a great product and I have done many 1911 Norc pistols in that solution.

Your sir are a prince. I'll definitely be in touch. I'm off to Gagtown for a bit but luckily I'm back at the start of Sep.

I love my Coleman double burner. It's what we used when I went camping as a kid and of course on winter ex. It's what I bought when I started camping with my family, wife thought I was crazy and should have bought propane.

Now I just have to get the 20" barrel off so I can put on the 16" trapper.

Mister Donut, yes the methods I mentioned will remove bluing. People have even used plain vinegar to remove bluing.

Vinegar??? Wow, thanks for the info. I'll try to do a bit more research before I actually do it, but thanks a million! Great to know I can get the desired finish without spending an arm and a leg, and without requiring access to specialized equipment like a sandblaster or chemical bath tubs.

Use a rubber plug or wood dowel. Trick is to fill the barel with water so there is no air to expand and pop your plugs out. Some people don't bother with plugging the barrel at all, apparently the park solution will not affect shiny polished surfaces much if at all in the 10~15 mins it is submerged.
