Hi guys,
Bit of a yarn and a few photos from a hunt on the 15/8/2013
Went out this morning with a mate an had a bloody ripper day.
Unfortunatley we spied a big Stag out around 350-400m and as it was my friends turn for a big Stag he lined up but couldn't get comfy on the slope an a decision was made to not blaze away.
We stalked up along the ridge towards where the deer would be bedding for the Rays.
Along the way had many encounters with Hinds with Calfs and also young spikeys with immature stags of around 24.
memorable moment for this morning was having a spike jump out of his bed, but unsure of what I was, with my mate hidden behind the tree, the Spike began stomping an really getting its neck out of joint as it curiously stepped forward stomping.
The 5 minute affair, ended abruptly when the spike honked an took off.
once we hit the top of the ridge we were kind of blocked in by thick scrub which would of been too loud to attempt to stalk thru an still find deer sunning...
We found a bit of a vantage point an from there we glassed a few animals moving into the sun on the opposite face, hinds an calfs an then the old Shrub getting thrashed caught my attention. It happened to be a poor fella with a malformed set of antlers, missing the tops. We pondered for 10 minutes an I decided to shoot it.
We'l be back there shortly.
WL
Calf sneaking away from close range- My camera failed as the Hind walked infront first....
Hind feeding up into the Sun
Another Calf bedded in the Sun- healthy numbers of Sambar around.
From across Gulley, here is the Stags Antler while thrashing the bush.
After the Shot the animal ran countouring the hill an ended up here, 50ms away.
The wonky head
Myself aka Hilldog and the Sambar Stag- I shot this animal with a Browning A bolt 300 WSM and a 150gr Corelokt Projectile from 100meters.
My good mate was also on the hunt, He wants a wall hanger.... So id say he'll be doin a bitta hunting
Cheers
