Finally my first 30-30 is an ugly duckling but it is my first...

Would look cool if i mount my Specter 1.5X6 that i bought for my M, but no more M, a 2500.00 optic on a sub 500.00 zombie rifle, sure would be a picture to take... JP.

I realize now that apparence is a main concern for many members, if it shoot strait, i really dont care what it look like... JP.

Hope Karl has a blast with it and I hope you have some zombie targets for him to shoot at! Kids would probably have fun shooting at zombie balloons.
Oh, just googled zombie balloons....lol...will have to order some for my grandson to shoot with his Savage Rascal.

Seriously?

Caramel- You do know that Winchester is making lever 30-30's again, right? And they're very nice, as opposed to the Mossberg.

 Lord have mercy. What is it? Does the stock come already broken when you buy it?

That seems to be what most the younger generation go for these days, something black and plastic. But, as others have mentioned, we need to get more younger people into the sport, and if that is what it takes. That and getting him out to spend quality time. Let us know how it shoots.

Matt

Unfortunately, most of the older guys at the range, 50 and older, do a great job making young shooters feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. There is the occasional really nice one that helps out and takes new shooters under their wing, but its rare.

Ya I know what you mean. My first time moose hunting, the elder of the group didn't wash a FU_KING dish or do a efing thing around camp. He even tried to rip my gun out of my hands when we heard a bull in the bush (he left his at the ATV while dressing), after he had just shot one!!! I didn't go hunting with that guy again......What an a-hole.

...beauty is in the eye of the beholder?

I say go for it... we're still lucky enough to have enough choices in order for people to own ugly guns... if it was the only gun we were allowed, it would be a beautiful piece... but, with the variety we have now there are other options for us

Ugly is too kind of a term to describe that beast, but what the hell... if it shoots straight and doesn't break it's doing better than many other pretty rifles that I won't list so I don't offend ;) Looking forward to a range report.

The purpose of this gun is to provide a self defence firearm in jurisdictions where AR types are not allowed. No detachable magazine, no semi auto action. Yet all the durability of a black rifle, with even less maintenance. Has that tactical look too.

Bingo!
I noticed the same thing.

Also Methinks Vancouver Island Fish and game clubs could take a page from the Alberta ones as far as offering mentors for new hunters (regardless of the new hunters age). Instead it feels like a very closed system, which in the long run is not a sustainable system.

I have to admit that beast is starting to grow on me,and it isn't always about looks is it?As long as the critter shoots and handles well I can overlook a lot of fugliness.

I really hope you're being sarcastic. A lever 30-30 for self defense? Would that be to thwart the "attack of the killer whitetail"?

It's purpose is to appeal to "Generation Zombie Killer", that's all.

I don't understand your sarcasm. Are you saying a 30/30 is overpowered or underpowered for self defence? Certainly not the best choice for self defence, but if you are prohibited from owning a detachable mag fed semi auto, why not?
