Had a bit of flooding, the old stock got soaked with nasty water, so she needed a bit of work. Crapco stock from Dave as well as the TS-200 sight.. Also got a "Magpul" foregrip from DX to round her off. A lot more comfortable to shoot and as reliable as ever. Had a bit of fun with her last night.

Edit: The stock required a bit of fitting, also to get the Tech sight on, but I didn't need to remove too much material.. Don't like the fact that the pistol grip is held by a metal screw that screws into the plastic (makes me iffy about detail-stripping her too often), but it's a sturdier solution than ATI.

looks great! I had to file down my stock to make the tech sights fit properly as well. small compromise for such a great iron sight!!!

just be carefull when putting the grip back in... VERY easy to strip that plastic then you have a wiggly handle... it sucks.. speaking from experience.

Some of these "Hot Rod SKS"S" projects take on the apperance of a Frankenstein Monster
but in your case it all comes together in a visually pleasing way, well done.

Zeuce, thanks for the vote of confidence on the Tech Sight, I get mine tomorrow
afternoon. Mixed feelings on this due to the fact that I have my rifle dialed in right
now and will have to start all over again.

you wont regret it at all. I also went with a williams fiber optic front post and it just makes it that much "gooder" :)

Thanks for the warning. Yep, that's my big concern even though the ATI solution is even flimsier from what I hear. I'm guessing you fixed it by pouring some relatively flexible epoxy down the hole?

Don't throw away your front sight tool. A lot easier that way. Probably won't be doing much dialing. Mine didn't need any adjustment for general plinking, but I will have to dial her in before I take the rifle out for the club league.

Apart from the Tech Sight how much have you invested in the conversion.
The Timbersmiths stocks are impossible to get ones hands on and this
would be a good alternative for my Chinese, on my Russian I've added 3.5
inches to the stock and it's perfect right now.. Being 6.2 tall the length
of pull on the basic stock is impossible for me. I cant figure why the Russians
have such a short length of pull especially when Northern Europeans are by
and large tall people. I have first hand experience of this from travelling to
Hamburg and Berlin on numerous occasions.

$140 plus shipping/hst. Might be able to save a few bucks by going with Brownells but I wanted my rifle to be good to go sooner rather than later and I don't mind paying a bit extra for good service with hical. The foregrip was probably $10 shipped from Hong Kong.. A little long for the SKS rail but still got enough to grab onto for a solid hold.

Soviets at the end of World War II were still slowly coming out of feudalism and have had some bloody conflicts in recent past, so they were underfed and stunted. Once communism got a bit of a running start, even with the arms race, food stopped being a problem down there and they bulked up. However, at the time the SKS was designed, your average Soviet peon was closer to 5'5"

That's interesting information, I never knew the Russians had it so hard.
The price of your conversion sounds good and you land up with a more
comfortable rifle to shoot.

From my experience using the front sight to adjust windage takes a lot of
patience due to the fairly crude adjustment tool. You get it almost perfect
and then get greedy and shift it too far and then start all over again until
eventually you get it right, it's fun if you have the time.
I'm hoping the Tech Sight 200 will minimize this to some degree.

Enjoy the long weekend.

Nice vid! Yours?

The reason they had a communist revolution in Russia was that those peons had it REAL hard under the feudal system. Eventually they had enough and went with a system that was sure to equalize the wealth. Being used to being run by tyrants, they allowed freaks like Stalin to run the show but even with that and how far back they were when they started, they pulled off a miracle by turning into a major industrial superpower. If they didn't have to participate in the arms race, that country would have been pretty good to live in but they had to build an industrial economy from scratch while wasting money on weaponry in order to keep up with a country that was already highly industrialized and full of war profiteering cash.

Ok, I just sighted in my baby. One turn of the front post got the elevation dialed in at 20yds, windage was fine, grouping at just under 1" off a single sandbag. That's a good battle zero and just the right distance for a club-level unsanctioned league.

Got my Russian suited Techsight dialed in on the weekend.

I used a pen with a long skinny point to adjust the windage, all you do is push in
the detent and then start the rotation and it works fine. My front sight post was
mounted 1/4 off center so i had to do around 8 - 10 clicks on this to get it shooting
straight. The SKS front sight tool is very hit and miss when compared to this sight system
for windage asjustment.

For elevation I used a small Robertson screw driver that worked like a charm.

Started at 25 meters and kept increasing till it was happy at 100 meters.
I was using Canadian Tire "Blue" paper towel pieces for my targets taped
to a carboard box.

On my third shooting day I pushed it out to around 200 plus meters and I could
keep at least 75% of the rounds on a 12" x 12" piece of paper which impressed me
because I have no experience with this sight system.
The grass/straw was 1 meter high so I didn't have a clear view of the whole target.
Shooting at this range involved a lot of walking through dense grass/scrub.

This sight is superb to work with and next time I'm up north I'm going to try it at
300 meters with a plywood/2x2 target system to keep the target above the grass.

All in all I'm thrilled with this sight and the peep/aperture sight system not to
mention that this a quality piece of kit.

Sounds like you had a much easier time dialing yours in.

Germany and Russia make for the perfect partners. Both have what the other
needs, Russia has a abundance of natural resources and Germany is a world
leader in high tech. The number of trade deals that have been set up between
the two in the last decade is substantial. Few people know that up until the
last year or two Germany was the worlds largest exporter, selling chemicals,
engineering, robotic manufacturing , cars..., all high tech expensive stuff,
China just recently took the lead. (the North American media doesn't cover
much of what is happening in the world apart from middle east wars)

Nice. I can't wait to get my membership processed at an outdoor range (running about 6 months late) so I can test her out.. Based on what I know about the cal, should shoot about 3" high at 100, dead on at 200.
