I've got the rail, and a DMS-2 1-4x to sit on it. Now it's just down to figuring out if I need low (.255") or medium (.6xx") rings ... any thoughts?
That sounds like the setup I'm going to run - although I'll be mounting my Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x24 and I only have a low set of rings to mount on mine. Hope it works!
Maybe a silly question but are you able to take off the carry handle and put a flat top rail on top?

Nope, don't believe that's an option.
As posted above, the carry handle can't be removed, easily anyways.
The setup we're talking about is using the Picatinny Rail that fits to the top of the carry handle.
Myself, I'm thinking the lows will be too low to clear the DMS Zoom dial if it's too far forward, so I'm going to go ahead and get Medium rise Millet Rings. I would've like to have went for the Trijicon, but for what I'm doing, the DMS should serve me fine.

I thought I saw an airsoft rail for the t97 that replaced the carry handle and modified the charging handle. It might be in one of the t97 threads.

That being said, she was great to deal with on the phone. I'm sure sitting at a dedicated phone line for people who have waited up to 9 months for word of a gun to arrive may not always be the most fun job. "Is this who I speak to about the Type 97?" "Are they here yet?" "I'm left handed, can I shoot this?" "Will this shoot into space?" "Is the muzzle device threaded or pinned?"
