I am looking to purchase an AR-15 in the near future, and was wondering if anyone has purchased one from Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply. While the price is steep ($2500+), I am willing to pay if the quality is top shelf. Or am I better off to stick with a Bushmaster or Windham Weaponry?

Thanks

At that price I'd go knights, if you can find one.

everything i have heard has led me to believe that they make some excellent stuff. My next build, a 12.5" setup will be an ATRS one. However, the price is steep. For that price, you can grab a daniel defense and accessorize it.

For the price you pay and what you will get, ATRS is an excellent option for an high-end AR custom build. I'm very pleased with all of the products I've purchased from them. Customer service has always been excellent too.

Oh and the fact that they are made in Canada is a big plus in my books, supporting a Cdn company producing, amongst other things, ARs.

Oh and finally, just to piss off Liberals and Dippers is also a big plus.

I just looked at one when I was there picking up my rifle. I don't even shoot ar 15 rifles and was not even looking for one. They asked if I wanted to hold one and look at it. First impressions were
-super light like 5 lbs or less for the shorter carbine with the Daniel defence rail.
-quality right feel and most of the parts are metal the ones you would want to be anyways.
-it felt really well balanced
-proudly made in alberta Calgary the receivers anyways
-the way I look at it is the money goes back into Calgary for jobs and manufacture great !
Again I'm not an ar 15 expert but everything felt very right and tight no rattling when I gave her a little shake. I have only ever shot nr similar rifles so if it was non restricted it would be tops on my list of future purchases. Then again what do I know but first impressions compared to other ar 15 rifles I've fondled it was second to none. I've fondled some Daniel defence colts norincos core rock river and ruger ar and other similar styles of ar and this one felt better in many ways depending on what rifle you want to compare it to.

For the price I would go with Knights as well.
Heck you can get a Colt LE6920 for 1800ish.

KAC would be an excellent choice as well. In that price range, one can get the SR-15E3 IWS 16" MOD1 for $2,750. Then you have to step up too $3,100 (for the SR-15E3 LPR 18") $3,150 (for the SR-15E3 11.5" CQB), then $3,450 (for the SR-15E3 14.5" SBR Rifle).

How do you feel (in details) that ATRS's can't come close to a Colt LE6920?

Im not saying that ATRS can't come close to a Colt LE6920. What I am saying is that you can get an excellent AR15 for 1800ish

Billet upper and lower, made in Canada, perfect fit and finish. I own one of their barrels and as soon as I have the cash I'm buying a matched upper/lower from them for it.
Everything I've seen come out of their shop has been perfectly finished from AR's to my buddy's custom 338 Lapua.

If you can afford it I would go for it. You won't be disappointed.
I'd rather have one of their rifles than any off the shelf DI rifle out there.

I think it may be a decent AR, but you will take a huge bath if you ever try and sell it. If you want an MOA AR, that isn't hard to find for $1500+/- , pretty much any decent name brand will turn those out. Hell, throw a decent barrel on a Nork and you can have MOA for $1k.
I guess you should tell us what exactly you want to use it for?

The guys at Calibre Magazine seemed to think we made a better than average product.

KAC is certainly high end as well BUT many parts are proprietary. Try getting a barrel extension from them in order to salvage a barrel and bolt that had a non unwarrantable "incident".

The other part to consider with what we build is you get EXACTLY what you want, not simply what is offered.
To some this is a valuable option to have.

I have seen these rifles in person and while I have not shot one I can tell you that ATRS produces some of the finest AR15 rifles that you can find anywhere in the world. Sure you can get excellent quality from multiple manufacturers; Knights, Noveske, and LMT to name a few, but ATRS from what I have seen is at the very top of the scale, and they are proudly made in Canada.

I think if you are looking to spend in that price range they are worth it. Customized and high quality build. From the build I was looking at doing there on the website it was close to 4 grand, so you are in the price of Knights etc. I cant bring myself to spend that much on a rifle yet, but if I was looking to that is the rifle I would buy.

The only issue with them is the price. Nice product, lots of options. They put to together a very nice rifle package with good quality but they aren't afraid to charge you for it. If the money isn't an issue then it's definitely worth a consideration. Just work out the premium you're paying first to decide if that's the route you want to go.

I must say, I've been looking at a high quality AR for about almost a year now and I still haven't made up my mind. I don't dish out 3000 easily on something restricted so I've been going back and forth on all the top brands and I'm still without an ar. At this rate I'm not even sure if i'll get one in the next 6 months.

The one I seen was beautiful and had a gorgeous wood stock. I'm not sure if it was just because of the stock but it was REALLY heavy!!! Make sure to check out the weight of it.

In your opinion, which part(s) do you feel is being overcharged in their custom ARs? Their lowers? Their uppers? The barrels they turn out? Finishing costs? Their hourly/Labour costs? Other?

Do consider also the volume they put out each year Vs KAC, Noveske, Hera or the likes when provide details the above. Are they 10% too high? 40%?

I'm a fan boy and have no problems saying so, but I'm trying to determine exactly how much of a "problem" it really is when all things are considered.

How many parts do they actually make on their AR's? Just the upper and lower? Are they sent out for anodizing or is it done in house? They turn barrel blanks to size or just buy and install?
Breaking it down to what they actually manufacture, vs the cost of assembling a rifle out of someone elses part will probably backfire on you when trying to justify the high price tag.....just sayin.
