NEA 15 14.5" carbine the first 18 months, Pic heavy.

While we got a discussion on critters down under.... look what got thumped by the Mitsubishi SUV....

Yup, that's likely over 100 kg. My fond memories of visiting outside Canberra in da booosh! :D

Cheers, mates!

Sorry guys... got another one

typical.... winds all over the place im after pork found them heard them grunting never saw them. so continued wandering around then i hear crashing on a spur above me, walk a little way up more crashing and it's heading down hill about 30m away. Moving a little up the spur (it is about 5m higher than the valley i was in.) the crashing is moving down hill in front of me. I wait and watch through in a gap in the trees i spot a red yearling. Line up rifle for the next gap sure enough she stops in it. up on the neck POP! drop! YAY!!! at 6:55pm

i was behind the leaning tree fern at the back centre of the pic below.

yes im in my work uniform and it still smells like deer :)

pretty good damage from the 60gr NBT

after dressing out found a bit of a problem... i've never actually needed to carry one out before it soon dawned on me i had nothing to really tie it up with. after 20 minutes of trying to figure out how to do it with tendons (after i had all ready taken the hocks off.) i looked at the NEA and promptly tore the 3 point sling apart threaded it through the hocks and got it sorted we started off at sunset 8:04pm to return to the boat at 9:20pm

Im gonna be feeling that tomorrow :(

total distance covered 3.2km
distance deer was carried 1,081m
time of hunt (until the animal was found) 1:55
time to dress and prep to carry 1:09
time to carry out 1:18
time to get home 20 minutes.

Sure looks like those NEA's can't handle any rough handling at all. :D

You should consider a Timney drop in trigger. They are much better than any MIL spec trigger.

Have you considered trying 300 Blackout? The americans are using that caliber for deer and hogs and it seems to be very effective.

Possumtrapper; are those wallabees good eating?. I have never eaten one. I had kangaroo once and it was nice meat, are they similar in taste?. Nice shooting by the way.

i've had a look into 300 blackout (we get the NEA300's down here now :) ) good fr the close stuff but my shooting with this rifle on goats extends out to 500 yards. so 300 isn't for me :) digit used one to good effect last weekend on a sika though the 300 looks to have done less damage

as for the trigger this was one of the early 2011 batch yeah it was a 18lb trigger it's about 5lb now and im used to heavy triggers :)

the wallabies are pretty good some recon better than venison but i don't agree with them :) haven't had roo so can't compare them.

and it's not black... technically its a slate grey.... :p

Yeah, the BLK would be a bit iffy at 500 yds. But inside 300 yds it is proving to be pretty deadly. With a can it is a lot quieter than a 556. Subsonic it is loads of fun and packs a hell of a whallop with hardly any noise.

yeah they're great fun and have a place in our scrub hunting still leaning towards the AR10's though :)
