I just learned that the transcanada pipeline project goes right in the middle of my hunting grounds.......

I hate this............. Not only that, it will pass less than 300 yards from my house......

For my 2 little girls, I'll have to do anything I can (legally of course) to prevent this from happening...

Other than while the pipe line is actually being built and the men are working, you will not be losing your hunting grounds. The next few years after the pipe line is built it will be a hot spot for game as the clover then the trees grow back. Is also a fantastic shooting lane!! I hunt pipelines all the time, almost exclusively.

As far as worrying about your children's safety about the pipeline, a dry oil pipe line is very safe. There are tens of thousands of them in service.

Dry oil pipeline????

They pump so many chemicals to make the oil become more liquid like. It's extreamly toxic stuff too. They don't do dry stuff as it's all oil just hit it with a rifle and it will spill out for many days before they notice it's happened in the past were someone shot it and people have even blown up parts of the pipeline in the north because they weren't happy it went in. Made a heck of a mess too. The pipe line has to go in some were but with building it in an earthquake zone it's a huge disaster waiting to happen. Auto shut off crap never works trusting companys to do the right thing never works they're as cheap as they can be and screw safety if something happens play stupid and go opps sorry. Just like the trains in Quebec you wouldn't see that kind of lack of safety with track when the Government was running it. It was safety is number 1 which is why it's more expensive for the Government to run were companys want to just make money and they cut corners when ever they can. Many pipelines in the past have had problems with companys not knowing that it was spilling and some that did know but did nothing about it because they would lost more money if they turned it off to fix it so they let it leak out till people came out and said hey company your pipe is leaking all over the place it was leaking for 3 weeks before they stopped the line.

Never trust an oil company.... ever... There is a reason that saying is around and still is...

Legally the only thing you might be able to do is sue for lost value in the property or move... They might even put in a fence and put no trespassing signs up it happens allot with things like this. Since they own the land they go to bad keep off.

You don't even know what "Dry" oil means and have embarrassed yourself on that point alone. If you don't know the most simple and common terminology how can you be an expert on the complicated stuff???

Would love to know how the original poster heats his house.

You will loose your hunting spot during construction then you will be good to go. Did you really come on here worried you were about to loose your hunting grounds or did you just want to chat about evil oil with other hippies?

I work in the oil patch in northern BC. The guy that was panting bombs up here was some local nutjob that wanted attention. There wasn't any damage to the actual piping, so no spills. He set them off at night when no one was around, and in such a way that it wouldn't do any major damage. Anyone that knows even a little bit about explosives could do way more damage than he did. And the auto shutdown mechanisms that you claim never work get tested regularly by outside contractors, which is what I do. Oil companies are just like any other big corporation, the bottom line is everything, and getting shut down for safety infractions or environmental concerns cost them big time. Before you start loosing it on the oil and gas industry, ask yourself a few questions. How do you heat your home, do you own anything made of plastic, do you drive a vehicle, do you buy fresh vegetables in the winter, do you shop anywhere that sells stuff made outside of your community that needs to be hauled. A lot of hypcrites protest the industry I work but don't have a clue how much they rely on it. It sucks to lose land to stuff like this, and I really do feel sorry for the people that have their land basically stolen, but you can thank the government for not letting landowners have more than the first six inches of top soil.

First off, what rifle is punching holes in a pipeline? 20 mm Vulcan? Have you seen how thick an oil pipe is? And how much of it is running above ground where you could even shoot it if you wanted to?

Secondly, I don't know where you get the saying "never trust a oil company" from, as it sounds something idiotic like "never trust a Jew".

I spend thousands a dollars of my hard earned dollars on oil companies products every year and they haven't let me down. I have never been short of gas, gone cold, or not been able to sear a nice steak because of them. They also haven't poisoned anything of mine.

Third, the pipeline he is talking about is through Quebec, not your beloved BC and your "earthquake zone" (although admittedly there is tectonic activity in Quebec as there is in 90% of the world). However, even in your earthquake prone province, how many of these earthquakes have ruptured existing lines running for the past half century?

So take your "earthquakes" and "rifle hole" fear mongering (along with the domestic terrorism BS) and go back to rabble to discuss it, or actually think before you type.

This subject isn't going to get far with emotionally charged posts by the media hyped uninformed people posting on the subject. Unless they are turning it into a park, or blocking of a very large land tract I can't see how it will remove all future hunting.

Well how about this? Looks like hottie Mc-Clarkie has an idea!

Christy Clark announces 45,000 jobs for new project in BC
Random concrete blockades dubbed the "Northern Hateway"

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The BC provincial government is hosting a job hiring fair in early November of this year for a project that it estimates will require 45,000 employees...............

Haha...well I thought it was funny..

That sucks

Why don't you tighten them?

Anyone else notice how often people misspell LOSE on here? Is our education system that poor?

Yep. The bad part is, it's becoming so common, half the rest of the dunderheads think that it is the correct way to spell it.
Spell check works pretty well only if there are not two (or more) correctly spelled words to have to choose from.
I'd rather have someone lose the hounds than loose them at me, eh.
And yes, yes it is...

Cheers

I'm really worried..... I'm on the north shore of montreal.... wood patches are rather small and the line was traced in the middle of the wood patch I hunt.... thet will cut 100 feet on both sides so.... there will not be many wood left....... the opening will draw all the trail hunters ant atv's ....... Plus Our 4 generation sugar shack is in their target too.. That gentleman, is why I worry. They had the opportunity to lay the pipe in the many surrounding fileds (ours and neighbours) but they decided to aim for the woods....

Liberals do it all the time when it comes to guns, and pretty much anything else they talk about .. Maybe dry oil is the equivalent of a shoulder thingy that goes up.

If you are really worried about the safety of your two little girls, simonyzer, you shouldn't take them anywhere on public roads. Do the math.

It's not only a safety issue here...... It's about the heritage I wanted for them..... The family sugar shack wich we operate for more than 60 years will be a thing of the past.. The woods that our family walked for the past 100 years will be thorn apart........ And to be Honest, I don't like the fact that a pipe in wich will flow 1,1 Million barrels of oil a day will be less than 300 yards from my house. Statically, it's safer than cars... but I don't like it anyways.........
