I work in the oil patch in northern BC. The guy that was panting bombs up here was some local nutjob that wanted attention. There wasn't any damage to the actual piping, so no spills. He set them off at night when no one was around, and in such a way that it wouldn't do any major damage. Anyone that knows even a little bit about explosives could do way more damage than he did. And the auto shutdown mechanisms that you claim never work get tested regularly by outside contractors, which is what I do. Oil companies are just like any other big corporation, the bottom line is everything, and getting shut down for safety infractions or environmental concerns cost them big time. Before you start loosing it on the oil and gas industry, ask yourself a few questions. How do you heat your home, do you own anything made of plastic, do you drive a vehicle, do you buy fresh vegetables in the winter, do you shop anywhere that sells stuff made outside of your community that needs to be hauled. A lot of hypcrites protest the industry I work but don't have a clue how much they rely on it. It sucks to lose land to stuff like this, and I really do feel sorry for the people that have their land basically stolen, but you can thank the government for not letting landowners have more than the first six inches of top soil.
