I'll play too. This one is not quite "modern" but it was bought from one of the Sponsor Dealers because it looked interesting.
It is a 1911 Swiss K-11 that was rebarreled with a 6.5x55 barrel, restocked, and fitted with a set of Walther target sights. It is a good bet that this was done in Sweden, as it was part of a shipment of Swedish rifles that were imported into Canada.
It does well when fired in the prone position, but it really shines when you shoot it standing. The stock appears to be made especially for a Standing position shooting and it is very well balanced. The front sight is a bit wider than usual, which should help pick up a moving target faster, and there is a muzzle brake to help keep the barrel down upon firing. (The muzzle brake is inclined at a slight angle to counteract the torque of the bullet in the barrel when fired.) This, combined with the choice of a straight pull action that will give a very fast second shot, would point in the direction of a special rifle made up for only one target event that I can think of ---the Running Deer.
It is insanely accurate, and some of the Members here who have shot it were really impressed with the accuracy and the speed of cycling the action for a second shot. The local Gun Club has a bit of a "Running Deer" shoot coming up, and if I do not have to work that weekend, this rifle is going to be on the range that day.
The only thing I am going to have to do is take that spacer off the end of the butt stock. Being over six feet tall, I do have long arms, but the previous Swedish owner must have been descended from a Gorilla as the length-of-pull is around 15 inches.
