Native Moose Derby

Does anyone know where Bloodvein, MB is? Its in the middle of NOWHERE. How did this even make the news? As far as I'm concerned, they're 1) Status 2) Going to hunt moose anyways 3) Have no limit regardless

If you've ever been to a remote reserve before you know what does and does not happen there. At least the derby might inspire some youth to get into the bush for a couple of weeks and get back in touch with their roots. With a population of 1600, how many do you think will actually participate? How many do you think will get a moose? How many more moose will they get than the years before? This is a derby, not a cull.

What I do know for sure is there will always be racism until all Canadians are treated equal.

You don't think some guys will be shooting several moose to get the biggest? How sad....

Anytime I've tried hunting around the reserves here I'm lucky to even see any mammals! This system of hunting all you wish is unfair and unsustainable!
 
Threads like this always turn to racism, and most that post negatively usually don't have much facts to go on. Sad....

Don't depend upon the government to stop racism by treating everyone the same, WE must start treating each other the same first, and end it here. If everyone did this, government would eventually follow as all people in Canada would be getting along as equals, there would be no one in govt left making laws that divide the people.

Well I hunt around reserves up here and seem to fill my tags, curious as to what reservers you hunt around that the "mammals" are all extinct. Another hater of aboriginals exercising there rights, I am aboriginal and I too still buy tags as I hunt with my non aboriginal friends and family. Every native I know that hunts does not take more then needed for there family. Every fall the hate is on for the red skins stealing all the white guys game. Lmao hasn't this topic been debated to death on here.

how are we equal? Equal to natives? Not even close. thick about what you are saying, and get back to us.

Do you have to pay taxes? Do you get free education? Do you get money from the govt each and every month for doing #### all? Do you get to rape the oceans, and woods of anything living, whenever you choose? Nope, didnt think so. SO we are actually not equal, not even close.

Let me try to help you understand

Two ten year old buddies are fishing together,One is native one is not,they grew up together and never realized there was a difference until they both hooked the great Atlantic salmon,They both knew that there grampy would be so proud of their catch.But wait only one grampy would see the trophy as only one of these innocent youngsters can take the fish home. right at this point their innocence is lost and they realize they will never be equal.

That's a shame.
 
Now it's insults. I guess in a way I agree with you, you and I are not equal, I choose to be a better person and not view skin color, or government rules as making one of us better than the other.

Did you even read what I said? Equality and non racism starts with us, teaching our children that people are not equal, or one race is better than another, only leads to another generation of hate, some of which end up in politics. For it to stop, WE have to stop.

I will step out of this now, feel free to discuss my evil way of thinking, I believe it's our right.

You're misunderstanding. He's not saying we're not equal. Well, that's what he's SAYING, but not what he MEANS. What he MEANS is that we're not treated equally. And that's just a statement of fact.

Ask a lot of natives, and the gov't treats them like crap. Ask a lot of whities, and the gov't gives the natives everything. Who's right? Nevermind even having the conversation about whether they should be treated differently - again, different opinions.

Personally, I think natives should simply be treated equally. Remove all special considerations somehow. Then be done. We are allowed to maintain our culture here, within bounds so they can keep their culture - as long as they do it within the bounds of everyone else. Everyone hunts, everyone gets a tag, everyone has same access to crown land or private land.

Of course that's a long way from happening, because it's not just culture that's going on here. THere's agreements in place, and they're argueing about what the agreements even mean - and half the time they are even arguing if the argeements even exist.

In the end, where the average canadian is going to get screwed is that this isn't between canadians and natives. it's between natives and the canadian gov't - and if you think the gov'ts top priority in this is the average canadian, think again. Their priority is going to be compromising with the natives. Not looking after anyone else's interests. The fiasco with the agreement over privatizing some land in Ontario has shown that this is the case.
 
I hunt with a couple of guys who are native. Great guys, and they don't take advantage of anything. One of them is my best friend.

Gone up north to hunt and have been threatened on crown land by natives for being in 'their' area. They were driving around in a side-by-side with loaded rifles and one guy standing in the box with his loaded rifle so that they could shoot faster.

Drove into town to get supplies and a native at the grocery store offered to sell us a cut and wrapped moose for $400. Where is the MNR? Who knows. They don't care as they know that when dealing with natives that they won't get a conviction so they don't bother. Seems the natives have a blank cheque.

I've personally watched natives spear 10+ LB walleye from the bay of Quinte region while the MNR watched from a distance. They took them out by the pickup truck load. I'm not even kidding - by the pickup truck load!! Why? Because they were selling them for profit I was told by some other guys there. Disgusting.

Neighbour is retired CO from the MNR. You should hear some of his "native" stories. Shocking what they get away with frankly.

Now "someone" will come along and call me a racist and say that it's my fault we can't all be friends. Ya, sure mmmkay.

I don't hate natives, I'm not racist. I just want them to have to follow the rules too.

The coyote "derby" was in my hometown area and there are several MAJOR differences....

-Coyotes are becoming a big problem here and need to be culled... unlike the moose in the derby area which are dwindling and need help
-The hunters in the coyote "derby" all were required to follow fish and game laws and they even had people on hand to take and use the pelts if required
-The hunters in the coyote derby all paid taxes, bought a small game license

Apples and oranges...
 
Where I live we are the gateway to the largest game preserve in the world.Take a guess who was given the privilege of hunting there in a backroom deal with the Govt.It's not right IMO.
