Berger 70 vld match

Go for it, the berger vld's have a very thin jacket and fragment good on impact. I've used 69gr SMK with great success actually and there not as well suited to varmint hunting.

On the box they say suitable for vermints, but I have recovered several from a target that says otherwise

At 300m they went through a 3/4" piece of plywood, and into a rock solid pile of dirt, only the nose was slightly mushroomed, they weren't even deformed, to the point I bet you can reload them.

If you shot a coyote with that, I see it passing through without doing much damage.

just did a little looking found this here where some bloke talks about hunting with Berger VLDs. ht tp://www.handloadersbench.com/forum31/3780.html

Me personally would say to shoot it at a jug of water. shooting wood and dirt wont give a "ballistics" tests. dirt gives way to bullets pretty easy that aren't designed to fragment. water is gonna provide the resistance you need to have a bullet fragment as if it was hitting a soft target, you get that hydrostatic shock, If that jug blows up from 25-200 yards I think your good to go.

I shot a whitetail with my .223 and 70 Grn VLDs at ~80 yards. Shot through the back of the onside shoulder, bullet entered, and penetrated the shoulder/ribcage before expanding violently. Lungs were severely damaged, and then the bullet hit the offside shoulder blade, shattering it. The amount of damage was severe, and I wouldnt hesitate to do it again.
Having seen the bullets performance, I think you will have no issues shooting coyotes with it. I think that you arent as likely to see a "bang flop" as you are with some more explosive bullets, but I have no doubt you will get reasonable expansion and a humane kill.

223 with FMJ bullets have been killing people by the tens of thousands for decades - humans are much bigger than coyotes. Not much need to worry about a coyote riding around in an APC, wearing body armor...or shooting back.

It is 22 gr IMR 8208, Berger 70 gr match VLD's, winchester case, fed match primer, coal is 2250. Got 1/2 to 3/4 with the hogue stock, going out tomorrow to try it out with the HS precision. I will try out the water jug test and post some pics of the bullets for you guys.
