.30-06 brass not fitting well in shell plate.

Ive never has that happen and Ive loaded lots of 30-06 for many different guns. Are all your loads being shot from the same gun? Maybe its the gun deforming the base of the brass.

Think about this real hard.

Would you gripe and complain after looking in a dumpster and finding a old pair of shoes because they didn't fit.

Did you ever ask yourself why the shoes were in the dumpster in the first place.

And your griping now because these old shoes made your feet stink.

i have an issue with my lee auto prime shell plate not wanting to accept winchester 357mag brass. it works just fine in the press shell holder, so i suspect it wasn't machined big enough, ohwell works fine 99% of the time.

The small amount of time each day that you do have your head out of your @ss should be used for more important things than trying to be witty on a CGN….. just sayin'.

Cartridge cases subjected to excessive pressure can also expand the extractor groove beyond normal dimensions.
(One of several possibilities).

What does a cartridge case left on the ground and a old shoe in a dumpster have in common?

Below an old shoe, I mean a cartridge case subjected to a over pressure condition.

So your range pickup brass doesn't fit in your shell plate or shell holder. If you didn't like my old shoe humor maybe you will like my posted drawing above.

These cases below wouldn't fit in your shell plate either.

I don't pick up brass at the range unless I know it is once fired factory loaded ammunition. The three cases above were range pickup brass and reloaded by a new reloader who didn't have a case trimmer and didn't know that excessively long necks could cause extremely high pressures.

The small amount of time each day that you do have your head out of your @ss should be used for more important things than trying to save money and using range pickup brass of unknown condition.
Just sayin'.

You just had an educational learning experience, now man up and digest what you learned about old shoes and range pickup brass. ;) If the shoe fits wear it........................Or if the brass doesn't fit, chuck it.

It's not range pick up, its from a fellow I know from his collection of brass he reloads. You sure put a lot of effort into making sure you get your point across to us lowly minions, my deepest apologies for concidering you arrogant.

Your in an open forum where hundreds can read this thread and get a education about "used" brass. It doesn't have anything to do with lowly minions, "BUT" it may have a lot to do with used and abused brass.

Now excuse me, my bare feet are getting cold and I need to find my old stretched out bedroom slippers. ;)

Check your shell holder. I've actually had two rcbs shell holders crack on me which resulted in the same type circumstances. They were minute cracks in the top part of the shell holder on one side only, visible under a magnifying glass.

I have had new brass that was tight in the shell holder, usually a small burr. I've also had a shell holder that needed a bit of file work to accept all brass. Shell holders aren't expensive so another could be tried to see if that works. I have some brass that i know is tight in the shell holder and just live with it, if it was varmint calibre and used alot then i would change things.

If the case doesn't "float" in the shell holder or shell plate it can cause alignment errors with the die and increase neck runout.

If there are dings or dents in the extractor groove, on the down stroke of the ram the case will be tilted and induce neck runout.

"...It is a Lee shell holder..." Lee kit isn't high end stuff. It's entry level kit.
"...his collection of brass he reloads..." You see the guy fire that brass? If not, you have no idea how many times he's reloaded it or with what load.

I mentioned Norma above because the recess for the extractor is not cut as deep as anything else I have. Every one of my 80ish Norma's take serious force to get in the plate, everything from win, fed, rem and so on is loose and sloppy.
